Well that's a dumb conclusion Lee has a great hook which took Korobov's equilibrium when it landed and then he followed up with at least 10 more power shots yet Korobov didn't go down. He should have held or took a knee but the follow up shots prevented him from getting his senses back, hardly a sub par chin though.

Delighted for Lee. Korobov certainly proved that he is a dangerous fighter, buy he got sloppy. Wonderful finish by Lee, and the ref was 100% right to step in when he did. Andy will have to improve a lot to keep hold of that belt, and a fight with BJ Saunders could be a highlight of 2015.

I didn't see many of those to be honest. The consensus seemed to be that Korobov would probably win but that Lee was a live dog.

I think you should re-read the start of the thread before the RBR starts. Most don't see Lee as a live underdog. Great win for him though, happy to see him do it. Thought the stoppage was a little soft, mind.

Overall I think Lee was generally considered a live dog, though you're right to note that many people who posted in this thread before the RBR did seem to write him off. Korobov was an excellent amateur and I thought he would win by decision, but given all of his lackluster professional performances I think acting like he was a sure winner was very unwise, not just in hindsight. Incidentally I thought Korobov's fairly conservative style would help him avoid a Jackson-like outcome, but the finish was highly similar.

I'm not saying Lee will win but I think 3.5 to 1 is a bit of an overlay by the oddsmakers

Great Call ! I kind of agreed but didn't have the guts to put it in writing.

Andy Lee always has a punchers' chance.

I feel happy for Andy Lee, yet sad for Korobov, who had great potential at one time but was poorly promoted by Bob Arum until he regressed.

Vera and JCCJ were taking Lee's great hooks and then stopped him. At this level, you need to have a good chin or you will end like Bute, Groves, Jackobs, Korobov.

Poorly promoted and poorly trained.

Luck of the irish is real... first Jackson, now Korobov.

I wanted to see Korobov win simply because he offered a new name in a division that's otherwise filled with retreads like Taylor, Soliman, Geale, Martinez, Rubio, etc. Good for Andy Lee to get the win and return to being a bankable name and rankable fighter at 160. I'd put him over Quillin; his level of competition certainly isn't any worse over the last two years. There's some competitive fights to make with Lee, but I sense he's going to do none of them and opt instead for the easiest possible defense before taking his beating at the hands of GGG sometime in the Summer.

Yes, you're right. Quite a few posters made some pretty bold statements as if they had any clue what they were talking about. I never understand why people sound off with such declarative opinions as if it's fait accompli. And I never see anyone show back up and admit that they are stunned at how clueless they proved to be in a subject they were so certain of. There's a difference in offering an opinion and stating a declarative fact, a few Boxrec brothers should take heed of this. :shame:

Lee is "a live underdog" who kicks like a mule. I understand what you are saying. Hard to understand how there may still be people out there who consider Lee garbage, unless they have made the mistake of going long against him in his last two fights.

What's not to like? Lee is either going out on his shield or carrying his opponent out on it.

Kind of annoyed that I had to tolerate so many months of claims that Korobov was this world class fighter that actual world class middleweights like Quillin were terrified of. Completely unwarranted hype.

Love stories and guys like Andy Lee. Hung in there and won the title Emanuel said he would. People don't realize how much he dominated EVERYONE at Kronk. For some reason often wouldn't look as good on the real stage. Only one real loss in his career though - that first Vera fight he dominated most of it and really should not have been stopped. Chavez outweighed him by a ton - who knows in Texas with the Cole Mafia if he even made weight before the fight. Hope Andy can have at least one hometown defense after so many years on the road. Boxing is still the greatest sport. On any given day.
