It's not so much Channel 5 dropping out, it's that we'll be back to having no boxing on terrestrial TV. Just leaves Sky and allegedly, plus Eurosport with the odd show. 2 TV channels showing regular boxing and one of them's shite :(
Surely Channel 5 getting football highlights makes it more likely that they will do boxing, gives them a chance to keep hold of a sporting audience.
9-10:30 taken up more or less every Saturday night from August to May, difficult to show boxing because they'd only be able to show the main event, so they'd never have any major shows on because there's undercard fights the promoter would want on TV. The only other option would be to put the main supporting section of the undercard on before 9, get through the 4 and 6 rounders while the football's on, then the main event after.

they don't show much undercard fights on channel 5 so they could easily show the main event then show some highlights after the main event has finished

But if a promoter wants to put on a decent show, they're going to need a good undercard, but for that to happen it needs to be televised properly. Not really a problem with Hennessey's shows, but they've picked up Golovkin-Murray in February, I can't see them showing fights like that if they're only willing to show the main event and not the whole show.

The BBC over in Ireland have form of backing their fighters. I remember the BBC showed John Duddy taking on either Matt Vanda of Billy Lyell and a couple of years later Magee Vs. Bute. Maybe McGuigan has a TV deal with the BBC?

C5 do about 8 shows a year at the moment. If they aimed at dates when there was no Match of the Day because of international breaks or FA Cup, they could have a free run after their football highlights show.

It's Barney Francis at Sky as mentioned by Pugilist.
It's a real conundrum this one as to where it will be shown.
I would have to put my money on Channel 5.
Yep, I meant big Barney Francis lol

They usually pick up late night replays on Sunday's though. The exposure would be there but doubt they have the sort of financial clout he would be looking for.

RTE don't show boxing any more so it won't be them. Plus Cyclone will want UK coverage so someone else has to be involved.
Well RTE could work if it was channel 5, however I do not think that RTE would be interested. Sure, they barely showed the Casey / Rigo fight.

And if Barry wants more he's going to be left with nothing except the ticket sales!

Something will come of this in terms of TV. Even if it's Primetime or whatever it was called.

I listened to the press conference on the 18th Dec, McGuigan said the TV would be revealed in a January press conference. We're only halfway through January

Crude and heavy handed. He was a Shobox mainstay for a while. Exciting guy but limited.

If he catches Frampton he might, I suspect Frampton out boxes him pretty easily and counters him at will.

Thanks. Frampton's chin looks pretty solid though, and I have see him in the flesh and his head is like Easter Island
