Keep the heavyweight guys below a reasonable weight but still call that division heavyweight.
Let the lazy fattys and over sized odd balls fight it out for themselves in an 'oversized division' wearing vests.

Personally I despise the heavyweight division.
Don't watch it then.
Dont worry, I very rarely do. The thread is a question based on something that would shake up the division.
Would it improve it? In my mind, Yes.
Would I then watch it? Possibly.

Do I need anyone else to tell me what to watch? No

Later then.

How can you be a boxing fan and despise the HW division? That would be like loving politics but hating election night.

They must already be running it where you're from since you've been granted computer access.

Cant say that I agree, would it be better if I stated that I dont like the modern Heavyweight division?
If you are suggesting that the Heavyweight division is still the main division then I would certainly disagree. It will always have the potential to catch the public interest if there is the right match up but what is that match up? Can I see millions worldwide tuning in to watch a flabby Tyson Fury fight a pawing cautious Klitschko? Or Anthony Joshua destroy another aged has been? Not for me.
Put a 50-50 welter weight / middleweight bout on at the same time as a 50-50 Heavyweight bout and I know what channel I'd be tuning into.

Also judging by your logic, cant I be a football (soccer) fan unless I support Barcelona? Many see them as the best team after all.

The equivalent would be being a football fan and not liking the World Cup.

The heavyweight division has always been and will always be the flagship, glamour division. It's why sub standard boxers ( when comparing skill level with the elite lower weight fighters ) earn very, very well relatively speaking.

The heavyweight championship is still the richest prize in sport potentially. A prime Tyson today would earn twice as much as Floyd Mayweather does. Manny/Floyd would be chief support for Iron Mikes latest defence against Kubrat Pulev :OhYes:

A self proclaimed boxing fan isn't looking forward to Wlad vs. Fury? That is absolutely mind boggling. :witzend:

I actually assumed he was shouting in the background whilst his home-help did the typing, occasionally he gives vent to a gurgle or something & they have no idea how to spell it so randomly mash their mouse on the bit with the smilies & voila!

Clearly missing the point where I mentioned the modern heavyweight division.

If klit v fury was on one channel whilst one of these were on the other:
May v pac
GGG v Froch
kovalev v stevenson

Which would you tune into?
Id even tune into frampton v quigg, khan v brook before klit v fury.

If a prime tyson was in the heavyweight division just now my opinion would be completely different but he isnt.

Proves nothing but makes me feel better:

The sport would benefit from fewer divisions not more. As others have suggested, the way MMA do it is preferable to the way boxing does it:

Flyweight: 125
Bantamweight: 135
Featherweight: 145
Lightweight: 155
Welterweight: 170
Middleweight: 185
Light Heavyweight: 205
Heavyweight: 265
