Wonder if this makes a decision robbery less likely.

So if Quillin wins does Lee lose the title? I know some sanctioning bodies will strip a champion if they lose, regardless of whether it's a title bout or not.

Apparently not. Lee keeps the strap, which will be a coup for him since he's going to lose.

Well now it's a far better chance that Quitting will win because he will not be drained from making the weight and will outweigh Lee. Would be great if Lee were to win.

What can I say? I didn’t make weight. I want to apologize to Andy Lee and to all my supporters and fans. I made every effort to make weight but it just wasn’t meant to be and I have no one else to blame but myself. I may not win a title tomorrow but I still have a fight to win and I still plan to put on a good performance. I promise to use this as a learning experience for the future. God bless.

So, now we know that Quillin's purse is laughable compared to $1.4 mil he could earn against Korobov:
http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/12 ... t-andy-lee
Although there are no weight fines by the New York commission, the camps struck a deal under which Quillin must pay Lee $125,000 of Quillin's $500,000 purse to go through with the bout.
Lee's $500,000 purse got a bump to $625,000, but he will make even more thanks to what he will earn from European television rights.
So, remind me why he should be thankful to Haymon ?

Neither Guerrero, nor Thurman, nor Broner made more than $1.5m for their PBC fights, and I believe that Garcia is making that figure while Peterson is making $900k. Why did some people think Quillin would earn far more than $1.4m for his 8th consecutive undercard fight?
So now Quillin's been inactive for nearly a year, he's lost his title and respect from the boxing community, and he's effectively getting only a $375k purse.

-lee walks away with his title tomorrow, win or lose
-garcia, whose last defense of his 2 titles was 14 months ago, is not defending either title and will walk
away with both win or lose
-peterson, who last defended his title 8 months ago, is not defending yet can still walk away with his title
PBC rocks!! they just get to make up their own rules and everyone just eats it up

he was already dehydrated when he came in at 161.6 and then looked worse when he came
back at 160.6. he definitely drained until there wasn't anything left to drain. when he rehydrates
he will definitely be bigger than lee, but that is because of how much he drained, not because he
didn't drain. he will probably outwork lee, drained or not, at least until the later rounds and then
the weight struggle could maybe affect him.

The PR job they've done--casting a Machiavellian shady money-grubbing mofo as St. Al & getting the wobbly-brained to shout "RACISM!!!" whenever anyone disses the organisation--is a thing of wonder. Not to mention the bait & switch with the actual fights: no aggressively even match-ups in American boxing for almost two years.
The actual on-the-ground fights, are not happening. Mismatches carrying on at the same rate. Awful manipulative bullshit going down all the time.
Yet people choose to overlook it.
I was on the last night-bus, saying to a mate of mine on the way back from Saunders-Eubank about how ridiculous it was, the very idea that promoters/promotional groups could now generate their own fan-base, & how what used to be (an admittedly very shady) sport was in danger of becoming basically an exercise of postmodern hyper-capitalist branding where fans now rooted for organisations & promotional bodies, & how fvcking weird
that was...
& he told me to shut up, I'd had too much to smoke.
& then a kiddie chirps up from across the aisle, talking to his mate:
"I fvcking love Eddie Hearn I does. Fvcking love him. He's amazing. Go to all his shows, I'd go to anything he puts on..."
Boxing's getting weirder. It's always been weird, but now it's in danger of disappearing up its own arse completely & fvcking idiots just lap it up as long as they feel they're being appealed to as a
demographic.

It's kinda crazy...
Quillin (heard, he wanted family time, after his uncle died, my condolences) didn't want a $1,4M payday. Its not like he had to fight GGG or Lemieux, no, it was a beatable guy, as Lee has shown. He dropped his title. (not too bad, because he still was able to fight Lee, thanks to Haymon)
Now, he failed to make weight, and only earns $375,000 instead of $500,000 & Lee makes $625,000. If Quillin loses this, he wrecked his bank account, and probably his career. Meanwhile Lee gets his payday against BJ Saunders, no matter if he wins today, or not.
Quillin made Lee a rich man, meanwhile he pretty much made a big dent in his own career.

Lee all the way is this fight. Quillin is garbage. His best skill is ducking quality opposition. Lee has been in with better fighters and will have this fight go his way.

And most of it is Haymon's fault except Quillin is not being man enough to stand for himself and not making weight (if that was not a secret condition for Lee taking that fight).
Haymon didn't want to let RN to promote the Korobov fight, so he had Quillin refuse to take that $1.4 mil fight. So, Haymon may be good for fighters in certain cases, but he was so bad for Quillin in this one and he is bad for the sport in general creating artificial walls.

Quillen would deserve the loss if that happens.
Not making weight is cheating whether you intend to or not.
That being said, I doubt Lee will have anything for Peter.
This may even end in an early stoppage.

i'm not nearly as enthusiastic about this card as i normally would be with these matchups,
but i'm still going to watch, so victory for haymon. when i start seeing the big fights we all
want to see, across promoters, with them actually fighting in their proven divisions,
i'll be more enthusiatic. i was hoping the internet would result in a little creative destruction
as it has in so many other industries, but it might take a few more years before the
masses can directly start influencing the sport and replacing these new age puppet-masters
and carnival barkers. ironically, boxing is more like a government licensed and sanctioned
monopoly game than a free market.
