I'm not 100% sure who was the fastest. Tyson may have quicker hands than Ali, although Ali's reflexes were quicker. Need to watch more of Patterson

You can't judge someone as the fastest when he's facing the slowest. Williams was damned near shot to death and it was a miracle he even survived. Plus he never beat a significant heavyweight after he was shot because he was super slow. And when he was at his best Sonny Liston knocked him out twice in 2 and 3 rounds. It's like judging Ali by his fight with Larry Holmes - and Holmes by his fight with Mike Tyson.

That's like saying you can't judge Usain Bolt as being fast if he's racing me. If he's fast, he's fast. Doesn't matter if he's racing a cheetah or a slug. He's just fvcking fast.

JJ Walcott, Patterson, Clay/Ali, Ellis, Dokes, Tubbs all seemed uncommonly fast.

This is a bit of a myth re: Williams......Cleveland had a good bout of rehab, and though I would agree he was not at his best, he was not a corpse. He just was never one of the "best of the best". This is just a handy exploited factoid by a certain faction who feel the need to exaggerate, bloviate and and are pecksniffian in their manners. Kalan for you now to downplay Holmes win over Ali is an all time entertainment peak for the avid reader of these threads. However, the truth squad is always nearby to set the record straight, where ever and when ever an honest portrayal of facts are threatened.

I sort of favor Floyd on this question of who was the "Usain Bolt" of handspeed. However....there were slightly slower more effective punchers as well, that nearly rivaled him for sheer speed. I.M.H.O.

He beat Loughran, Gibbons, Greb, and Carpentier to the punch and beat them all... Louis had very fast hands for the Max Baer fight. The Brown Bomber knocked Baer down with a left hook and hit Baer with 2 more solid left hooks before he hit the floor... Anthony Joshua is right up there. He has very fast hands and has controlled every fight.

Patterson had quicker hands than Ali; just.

If you watch their 1965 bout, you can see that Patterson is marginally quicker, but not so much so that it was of any benefit to him as you could say that if Floyd = 100% in handspeed terms, Muhammad = 95%.

Iron Mike lost his speed and quickness by 1999. The last thing a fighter loses is his punch, if he got any.

Patterson was a teeny little guy and had a bad back injury versus Ali -- so he was a sitting duck defensively.. Ali's hands didn't look fast versus Doug Jones, Henry Cooper, Karl Mildenberger, and a whole host of punching bags during the 60's.. Ali missed a lot of punches.. He didn't look fast versus Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Jimmy Young, Leon Spinks, or Larry Holmes in the 70's.. David Haye still has amazingly fast hands.. Look at his last 3 fights for hand speed.. He blows Karl Mildenberger or Henry Cooper caliber opponents away in 30 seconds or less.

I don't think Ali's hands looked faster versus Chuvalo than Patterson's did... I know Patterson's hands looked faster versus Cooper than Ali's ever did.
