Also, Golovkin said that he deliberately didn't want to finish the fight in 5 minutes, and he made it competitive deliberately to please the fans who came to watch him.

To be fair, I was distracted by my baby daughter while watching the 5th so I possibly got it wrong. GGG undoubtedly landed the better punches, but Monroe was landing a lot more punches and GGG was defensively poor.

Fair enough, but a left hook buckled Monroe to the point of nearly going down and he took plenty of hard punches during the round that were clearly helping to wear him down. I just don't see how he came close to winning that with his pitter-pats, which were increasingly losing steam.

Exactly. He knew Munroe couldn't hurt him so he went into stalk mode.

I believe he was sloppy because he was completely going for it. he showed in the first that he was the better boxer. This is something I have noticed form G and that he did with Maclin as well. He started out outboxing them, then when he feels that he has nothing to worry about, he goes for it full throttle. he is the man.

Anyhow, he gave the fans what they wanted. This type of fight may open up opportunities for him.

It's still not enough to make him attractive in any way to Canelo or Cotto

They booed hard too. A Kazakh who has only been fighting in the US for like two and a half years or something is not only selling more tickets than Ward in his home country, but he's doing it in his home state and the locals are booing Ward heartily too.

This fight nicely showed that scoring rounds solely on the punches landed is wrong. Even in 3rd and 4th when Monroe perhaps landed more, it was GGG who was landing power. You saw the result in the sixth.

In fairness to Monroe, he landed some pretty crisp punches that snapped Golovkin's head back in the 4th round. He just about edged this one for me

I think it's really good payday against a guy like Monroe. There are only few fighters, who would get more money against similar opponent - Floyd, Manny, Wlad, Cotto and Canelo. And GGG gets paid more with every next fight, so not bad at all.

He said that he didn't want to finish the fight in 5 minutes, because people came to watch him and he wanted to give them a show.
