This.

Lots of people writing Frankie Gavin off - undersized, understrength and having lost to Bundu.

I don't see Brook stopping him and if Frankie can find his range and rythmn early I reckon he can make Kell look disjointed and will find his high held chin with his accurate back hand.

Going against the grain here and am calling the upset.

Am I biased? Of course but I am also surprised how many think Gavin will get banged out early - that just isn't gonna happen.

Terry, apart from your already stated bias, what makes you think he can cause an upset?

I'd say most people calling a wide points or stoppage win are basing it on brook having much better wins on his record and brook struggling to victory over fighters like Skeete and Woodhouse.

We could all be proved wrong but the evidence is there to say Frankie was a fantastic amatuer but as a pro he has struggled at British level

Freddie - I can envisage Frankie frustrating Brook with his movement and timing early on - he won't be a stationary target for Brook to unload his hard combos against.

If Frankie can find his rythmn and timing early and use his movement and excellent appreciation of distance he could throw Kell off course and off his game plan.

Its no easy task and the odds are rightly in the defending champs favour given form lines and previous results.

That said, I have been following Gavin's career since he was 15 and I know the boxing ability he has; on his absolute best day and if he is mentally and physically right then he has the tools to spring the upset.

I think Frankie is a lot tougher and gamer than he's given credit for but I see him as a big light welter and Brook is basically a light middleweight who works hard and diets strictly to hit welter on weigh in day. I think Kell would have a good fight with Bundu and Skeete would give anyone problems. Brook has shown he can dig down and pull through a crisis and win, Frankie has dug deep and lost. Frankie will do well but eventually be sickened and the ref will stop the fight when he's wobbly after getting back to his feet, in the second half of the fight.

Its really annoyed me seeing comments on social media slating him for taking the fight, its laughable that he is criticised for fancying a fight that he's not favourite for :witzend: . While Kell is a good fighter and rightly favourite, he's had his issues and weaknesses too. I've never seen Frankie so relaxed before a fight, and I'm more than happy with the ridiculous 10/1 I got for my cheeky tenner. Its a tall order, but winning a world title shouldn't be easy and something tells me it could well be Frankies night. A change of attitude brought Kell the world title, I hope it does the same for Frankie.
That something is blind loyalty and a little thing called hope. Not having a go, we all experience that for fighters we support.

In reality though, there is nothing to support your feeling and to compare a change in attitude by brook and gavin is a bit crazy too. Brook blew away his domestic opponents and was easily European class. Frankie has struggled with domestic opponents and lost when he stepped up to European.

I had high hopes for gavin as he is local to me but i just can't see how he wins tonight . Brook is better in every aspect
Its actually an opinion, one I'm entitled to have following years of watching them both. I'm not raving that its a definite banker here, I'm just saying that to suggest there is no chance whatsoever is ludicrous. If it were the case, we might as well go with the bookies odds for all fights and not bother having any boxing at all. Brook is not better in every aspect, on form there aren't many fighters who can avoid punches the way Gavin does. Brook didn't look so clever against Carson Jones, who while not a domestic opponent, wasn't exactly a world-beater. As I say, I totally get why Brook is favourite and on his game he looks class, to suggest otherwise wouldn't be sensible. Brook could end it early, for sure. I just think that Gavin has a chance of nicking a points decision, and that chance is for me better than the no-chance many are suggesting.

Well there we are. Gavin just wasn't up to the job. Brook was too skilled, too big and too strong for Gavin. Gavin is British level and no more.

Not at all mate.

The Ringside team told us he's one of the finest, most skilled boxers they've ever seen.
James Degale said you just cant hit this lad.
He must be world class.........

It effectively finishes Gavin off as a boxer at any sort of level. Really poor performance.

Even at 140 i dont think he has anything special...just another good amateur who couldnt make the step up. If hearn had any confidence in hin he woukdnt have fed him to Brook this early in his Matchroom career

Funtime? Never saw it

Gavin is not world class and that about sums it up.

Think the emphasis with 140 is that it could be an open weight to pick up an easier world title with DSG and Cheaterson moving up. Obviously Crawford is the man followed by Matthysse who probably doesn't have that long either.

Crawford and Matthysse both completely destroy Gavin.

Agreed didn't make that clear in the post as long as he steers clear from those two he could have a chance.

I believe Frankie should go to Simms get a stable round him drop to 140 and go again. That performance does not make him a gate keeper the likes of Carson Jones would do him something has to change and quickly.

Sims?? It's not like it worked for Ricky Burns.

I agree TJ, he looked as though he knew he was out of his depth from the off so why call for the bout? He isn't half as strong or powerful as Brook and for all his mastery of distance etc etc Brook found him very easily. A year or two ago there were a few solid posters on here convinced that Frankie was on the way to greatness and something has gone wrong somewhere.

Ricky's last fight was his best since he stopped Mitchell close to three years ago.

Their predictions!
Some went way overboard over his victory against a shot Vassell.

To be fair to those calling Gavin a potential world champion (me included), i think it was recognised that he would struggle to achieve this at welter due to the potential size differences.

Frankie is getting a lot of stick. People are forgetting he wouldn't have got this shot if Khan hadn't avoided Kell.

Not sure that was anything to do with Sims to be honest.

He shouldn't have had this shot period. I don't blame Gavin for taking it, he got a ticket for the lottery.

I can't really fault Khan for chasing the biggest fight out there, he's US based and is established on the networks over there. I can imagine Brook is frustrated but he is a tricky bout for Khan and hell still be there if Khan lost to either Manny or Floyd, if he lost to Brook before though the massive bout would be gone for good.
