As several poster have already said, Haye wouldn't take a fight against the likes of Joshua unless there was something very big at stake. Joshua's promoters wouldn't have anything to do with Haye because he pulled out of the last three fights he signed up for. There's more chance of Sunderland winning the premier league next season than those two fighting each other.

I think there should be an automatic censor in place (like when you try to mention Wrank Farren) if you try to put "Haye" and "inevitable" in the same sentence.

No, just this one. This fight is massive, it has crossover appeal and will pull in people who don't normally watch boxing.

Haye inactive for far too long, Joshua too inexperienced. Haye would need some fights to see if he still had it, and Joshua needs to fight some decent opponents first. Definitely not something you could put on the near future. Joshua could go all the way, but we don't really know that yet.

You're right. I just don't see this one happening I'm afraid.
Even if Haye was a currently active, Joshua is too inexperienced to want to fight somebody of Haye's level. Haye isn't going to wait around for a year or two waiting for Joshua being good enough to beat him.
Especially as Haye's last fight was three years ago, last month. Claiming; "Yeah, man. I'll definitely return", in a few interviews doesn't change how long he's been out of the ring.

Haye has been out far too long, and what does he have to gain, if he wins, then what? If he loses, it's a poor end to his career, I just cannot see Haye wanting to take that kind of risk.

well, with two characters involved whose rectitude is so unquestionable, no wonder it is so inevitable. who could possibly question its likelihood given a verbal agreement between these two publicity-shy, retiring, understated types?

I can't see Haye boxing again. He periodically says that he will, which is smart business sense, as it keeps his profile raised, but he hasn't boxed for years now, was getting injured and seems to spend most of his time in Dubai doing business. I loved watching Haye box, as he brought charisma and energy to an arean and came in to knock his opponent out and I don't begrude him his retirement; I just can't see him boxing again.

I agree Haye won't fight again. Next month he will be 3 years out the ring, he announced a comeback fight in July 2013, and several times since, and still nothing. He is 35 later this year and with a potentially career ending injury as well, which won't ever be the same no matter how great he thinks it feels, time really isn't on his side. All these announcements are just to keep his profile up and him in the news.

Hearn is making it quite clear Haye won't be Joshua's next opponent :
“David Haye is not fighting AJ but there are rumors he might go the same night,” Hearn said. “I think that’s a fight that’s not too far away either but the Klitschko fight is the one that really whets the appetite. I just feel it is the right fight for Anthony Joshua right now. He is committed, his training team is committed, I am committed, and I think Bernd [Boente] and Wladimir are as well.”

Ortiz Haye would be a nice undercard, if Haye doesn't dare Briggs. Somehow I very much doubt Haye dares to fight Ortiz.
