Hate brings them through the gate. Wilder laughing all the way to the bank.
I think people use the term "hate" too much. I'm sure there are people who don't like Wilder because of his ethnicity, race, past, whatever. But I think the main criticism leveled against him is that he has a padded record. That's true, no hate there. I for one just want to see who exactly he is. It's not like he's the first heavy handed heavyweight. Is he as good as some say or is he a hype job as others say? Whichever he turns out to be he will be in some EXCITING fights before his career is over.

He is likely to be somewhere between 'as good as some say' and the 'hype job others claim'. I watch his fights and progress with interest because he is entertaining. If he becomes a legend great. If he doesn't so what? Not sure what all the negativity is about, but I find it funny how much he upsets some people.

There will always be negative detractors. I'm just saying there is a difference between hating someone and wanting to know just how good (or not) a fighter is.

What I find comical are posters who say the sport is about entertainment.Yet when they get
their money worth from fun fighters like Wilder they find something else to complain about.
No one has said he has beaten the best.Or that he has a great resume. But he is fun to watch.
Enjoy it while we can

There is hate out there for Wilder in bucket-loads. Make no mistake about that. Probably the fighter more people want to see fail than anybody else.

So do I. I would just like to know for sure. I don't think he's among the elite *yet*. I'll pick Povetkin over him. But I see him becoming the top man (or in the mix) within the next 2-3 years.

I'd just really like to see him in a fight with someone with a pulse. Knockouts alone aren't exciting; knockouts over opponents who actually have a shot at winning are exiting.

Oh believe me, I know. I'm just saying not everyone who questions him in some way is hating on him.

I agree with that. But the hate level is undeniably huge and the fact that Wilder is talked about almost constantly just continues to raise his profile and profitability.

I think he beats Povetkin tomorrow. I'm a bit skeptical that he would KO Povetkin. But, I think he can utilize his size effectively and his power will keep Alexander honest. And even if he gets a decision win, people will bash him saying that his power is overrated. Where many feel his power is overrated, I feel his boxing skills are underrated. I don't think he is extremely fundamentally sound. But, I do believe he knows how to use his reach effectively at a high level.

You think he beats Povetkin and you've said before that he beats Wlad, so would you favor him over everyone?

In all honestly, I may have been a bit tipsy when I mentioned that as I don't remember saying it. Not that I didn't say it. However, I wouldn't be surprised if he did beat Wlad. Wlad is rarely fighting someone his own size, or taller. Wilder is that, and is very fast, powerful, and athletic. I also feel he has an extremely underrated jab.. It would be interesting.

But, other than Wlad (which I think is a toss up), and Joshua, I'd favor him over everyone else.

There's little doubt he'll make a lot of money. He'd be travelling pretty comfortably now.

I understand criticism when it comes to fighters. Every fighter on the planet gets it. But, to say Wilder is a joke is silly. Wilder completely dominated a guy who beat a talented heavy in Arreola twice... Once beating him wide, then KOing him. I consider Bermane a very credible heavyweight. For a joke to hurt and dominate him really puts a damper on some other legitimate heavies out there.

He showed in his fight with Stiverne that he has matured. It's going to be a hard pill for his critics to swallow when he beats Povetkin and the like.

Because it's on a Wilder thread with multiple views won't save him.

This +1!!

They still fail to realize that he is still very green in terms of pedigree and fighting experience, nearly all of his fights has ended early; how much experience can one take away from that? He started very late for traditional pro boxers, is he supposed to know it all just because he has a belt/title and 33 fights with over 95% of them ending early??

I think the criticism is unwarranted because he still put that guy away like he was supposed to do, if had 33 fights and all of them went the distance and a bum took him to school then you'd be hard pressed to get a peep out of me for calling him a joke but this man is beating nearly all of them by KO.

Truth being told, I'm not even sold on him and thought that if anyone can beat him outside of Klitschko it would've been Stiverne but he was overwhelmed and lost decisively.

I understand this. And I believe he does as well. He is a champ now. If he continues to take light opposition, even his lucid fans will start to turn. But, I believe he will prove his worth.
