For every lb Smith is above 12st 13 at 11 US time today he loses another $5k.

In all honesty I don't think Smith's made much effort to make the weight, flying does mess with the body because of the changes in air pressure, but he flew out last week so if that was true they would have known as soon as he got on the scales after landing.

He got a rough time on here because he started arguments all the time, a user of the old classic "If you've never boxed you can't comment" line.

I understand that the fight was originally to be made at 172 pounds but was moved to 170 at the insistence of Smith.

Just read that the day before the weigh in Smith was 8 pounds over the weight.

This is at least the third time one of Eddie's boxers have come in over on a big fight (Fielding and I think that Purdy was over?) and it won't do his reputation any good on the top stage if his boxers are missing the agreed weights.

As many others have said, it is not as if Smith looks like Randal Munroe used to look or a Carl Frampton without an ounce to spare, so what is he playing at ?

I am trying to think of an excuse why Smith is so over the weight, it's clear he knew he was never going to make the weight.

Has he just not trained? Is this a deliberate tactic to try and outmuscle ward and be the stronger man?

It's poor form and the fact he has lost 45k seems odd if it is the first one, as if it is just a payday for him then you would have thought that he would want every penny.

And if its the latter one and he wants to try and outmuscle Ward then you would have thought he would have more muscularity to him, to be polite.

If you've fought at 160lbs and then 168lbs all your career I don't understand why you would want to face a formidable opponent weighing more than you usually do. It will not sharpen your own skills. Look at cleverly, he was poor with the added weight against bellow. If weighing 175lbs means the best Paul smith then he should have been campaigning at light heavyweight...
