Re: Mayweather to fight Berto Tues. Sep.15 live on CBS

You would've thought with Mayweather leading the way in drug testing that he wouldve avoided giving a drug cheat a payday

Berto is the #1 WBA contender, coming off a win over Jositio Lopez, who was good enough opponent for Canelo among others. His hatred of Floyd and rededication under Hunter should make it interesting at least. I would have preferred Brook or Thurman or Bradley. Hopefully it is more competitive than Floyd's last fight.
Great post!koolkc107 wrote:The double standard by some folks is absolutely astonishing.
We have a heavyweight champ who has fought nothing but stiffs the last decade, and is getting ready to fight yet another one; that is met with fanboys licking their chops and rubbing their hands together in anticipation.
We had a guy some thought was the best in the world (til he actually stepped into the ring with the best in the world) not once, BUT TWICE in a calendar year select a guy for a PPV fight that was in a lower weight class, not ranked for the belt he was trying to take from the great, and fighting in that weight class for basically the first time...and most of his fanboys were fine with it, tho thank God they didn't actually pay for that crap.
So now, the greatest fighter of our era, still hearing the boos because of the clinic he ran on the guy that was supposed to be so much trouble, decides to take a similar easy fight like the aforementioned and what happens?
Fanboys wet their panties in a huge hatefest that isn't even mitigated by the fact that the great isnt going to make them pay a thin dime for it.
What's worse, is that in comparison to some of the stiffs selected by his contemporaries, the guy selected by the great is actually a decent fighter who is always in exciting fights, and is definitely not going to be fighting at welter for the 1st time. He is coming off of a KO of another very good but not great guy (who also would have been a decent choice for the last fight had he won).
If you had no problem with Rios and Algieri, Leapai and Pulev; if you have no current problem with Tyson Fury getting a shot at the heavyweight crown, then shut up about Berto and let the man try to take his victory lap.
One thing about Berto tho. If he can catch up to you, he can hurt you. And I would bet money on Andre against Rios and Algieri. Easy.
Well, actually, there are literally a fistful of guys out there Wlad needs to fight but isn't. And if you are going to give me that "he fights the top contenders" crap without one mention of HOW most of those guys came to be ranked at the top, then I'd just rather leave this at you thinking you are right even if you aren't.punchoutsb wrote:Great post!koolkc107 wrote:The double standard by some folks is absolutely astonishing.

Wait, actually no, that post sucked.
People constantly bitch and moan about Klitschko, who has not missed one top contender during his current reign. He's not fighting stiffs, he's fighting the best available contenders.
People also complained about Manny taking on Rios and Algieri.
Pulev and Fury are top contenders for the heavyweight title, why would anyone have a problem with them getting the fight? The only problem people have with Berto is that Floyd is the overwhelming number one fighter on the planet, so it's more his p4p status at stake than any sort of paper titles.
Assuming the sources are correct, the fight being on CBS is the sole redeeming point. Berto would not beat Rios or Algieri. The guy has T-Rex arms, is flat-footed, has no defense, low workrate, only has one dangerous punch, the short counter right hand, and has low ring IQ. He does have heart, fast hands, and if he can surprise you with the handspeed he can hurt you though ordinarily I'd say his power isn't especially impressive, but he's not the type of fighter that is willing to walk through punches(a la Maidana at times) and doesn't have the skills to work his way inside effectively against lower level guys, much less Floyd. Floyd can potshot Berto with the straight right hand all night without getting touched if he wants.koolkc107 wrote:The double standard by some folks is absolutely astonishing.

Of course Berto beats Algieri and Rios. You'd best leave it because you know I'm right. Wlad has literally got to EVERY contender out there. Obviously there will constantly be new contenders replacing old, but as of now Wlad has not missed one. So get out of here with your "fistful of guys" crap. He'll get to them just like all the others. As for your top ten babble, they get ranked by corrupt orgs for beating crap opponents, just like almost every other fighter in every division...you know like how Andre Berto is number 1 with the WBAkoolkc107 wrote: Well, actually, there are literally a fistful of guys out there Wlad needs to fight but isn't. I don't thing Algieri stays vertical once Berto tags him right. And Andre is skilled enough to box circles around Rios with more than enough power to make Brandon respect him.
Easy wins both for Andre, even at his age.

WTF are you talking about? Basketball is about as free on TV as you can get. Especially in Jordan's era.
Are you an idiot? There's no way you won't have to pay to get into a Floyd fight or any fight for that matter. The only thing free is it's being shown on national TV which basketball, baseball, and football all have their national coverage.KBB wrote:If you go see the nba you will have to pay, you won't have to pay to see the fight live.IKSRTFO wrote:KBB wrote:Regardless of who the opponent is he is facing it's FREE, LeBron, Jordan, Rousey and all other top elite sports figures will never be able to say they are giving it to you for free.

I am absolutely 100% fine with Floyd fighting anybody in his last fight, and the fact its on TV will be amazing. But don't expect that from everyone. Floyd literally built his career on being hated. Why on earth would he or anyone else expect that to change now?
The only thing I'm noticing about this is that the handful of fanboys and haters constantly change there story. Guys like brut (sorry man, but you're the number one fanboy so I gotta name you) were saying they'd be fine with Cotto or Canelo rather than GGG because Floyd needs money and his legacy yadda yadda yah. Now those same guys are like, no Berto is totally cool because Floyd will still get pain and he's earned a break. The guys that drink out of Floyd jock are just as bad as the haters that would be ridiculing his choice to fight Ward at 175 in his final fight.
