Liam admitted himself that he's found the whole thing "stressful" so i cant see this helping things
I don't think you 'leave' Alex Morrison, going from what I've read about him when Gary Jacobs tried to walk away from him and join Duff.Jack B wrote:It's absolutely beyond belief that Burns still has anything to do with Alex Morrison. Whilst Hearn and FW can be slagged off (and neither come out of this smelling of roses), ultimately the promoter is - in effect - employing the boxer. It's surely the manager's duty (rather than the promoter) to protect the best interests of the boxer and, therefore, it is he that has to be accountable when a disaster like this occurs. Why, oh why, has Burns not removed AM and got somebody different involved?
Surely at some point boxers will realise it's in their best interests to try and set up some sort of union?!?!?
I'd bet my next salary that Liam is winding down his contract and that fwank knows full well he is. Hence all the crap opponents for pointless titles. There is no investment in Liam. Why ? Cos he'll be off.handsofstone wrote:Liam admitted himself that he's found the whole thing "stressful" so i cant see this helping things

If you google Jacobs and Morrison some interesting stuff comes up.rio wrote:Why what happened?JimJim2009 wrote:I don't think you 'leave' Alex Morrison, going from what I've read about him when Gary Jacobs tried to walk away from him and join Duff.Jack B wrote:It's absolutely beyond belief that Burns still has anything to do with Alex Morrison. It hasn't really gone well for Stephen since he made the switch and Paul tried to break his contract and is now out of pocket, I don't think he'd necessarily be better off unless he's going to be top priority there. World title fight at home on allegedly that he has a great chance of winning, then defending it, or undercards on Sky then sent abroad for a world title fight. There's no chance of him getting the vacant WBO title fight if he's with Matchroom and there's enough quality fighters at the weight for him to get frozen out of the title picture.JimJim2009 wrote:He'd be better off with his brothers at matchroom. If fwank delivers a world title fight, he would put a contract extension in front of him first and effectively Liam would be tied to the channel. If you have to sign a deal you are better off on sky.expe wrote:Paul owing Warren money is down to him and his lawyers, they tried to take a dispute over a managerial contract that clearly said that all disputes will be handled by the British Boxing Board of Control into court. Unsurprisingly the court threw it out, said that jurisdiction remained with the board and ordered Smith to pay Fwank's legal costs. The case also named Jamie McDonnell and Dennis Hobson, so I presume that McDonnell now has to pay Hobson's costs too.JimJim2009 wrote:
True and I would imagine if Liam's mind was not yet made up to move, this would do it - the bit about Paul now owing somebody 47k I mean.
Liam's always been clear that he's his own man and he'll decide what's best for his career, if anything it shows him that he shouldn't try and get into a legal battle with Warren. If he wants his world title fight he'll stick around for a while yet.
Regardless of why Paul owes the 47k, it doesn't take a genius to work out who's face will be on the family dartboard in the smith household. That was the point I was trying to make.
Ricky should get in with the Marbella lot, see if Morrison tries to fornicate with them.JimJim2009 wrote:I don't think you 'leave' Alex Morrison, going from what I've read about him when Gary Jacobs tried to walk away from him and join Duff.Jack B wrote:It's absolutely beyond belief that Burns still has anything to do with Alex Morrison. He's been shot and left for dead, ruined financially and come back to make a fortune - I doubt he'd know how to be intimidated.JimJim2009 wrote:Ha hahandsofstone wrote:Nice knowing you JimJim![]()
I was surprised at how fwank dealt with him, he slated him and ridiculed him publicly, and took him to the cleaners legally and financially. In fairness to fwank he didn't hold back due to morrisons alleged reputation. You have to hand it to fwank he really will go after anyone
I'm sure he knows some powerful people himself, enough for Morrison to stay well away.palooka wrote:He's been shot and left for dead, ruined financially and come back to make a fortune - I doubt he'd know how to be intimidated.JimJim2009 wrote:Ha hahandsofstone wrote:Nice knowing you JimJim![]()

I think there's very little room at the top-table, or trough, depending on your viewpoint in boxing promoting - and ironically I would say that it's actually the boxer's ability and the boxer's following that will ultimately do the business - literally.palooka wrote:Wasn't he in up to the neck in Canary Wharf? If I won the lottery I reckon I could be a good promoter but then I'd not have to turn a profit, I think that's where the knack is.
To be fair, my pals who've boxed on his show say he pays better than Eddie.palooka wrote:Though the grass is sometimes greener and Mr Warren has been at the top of British boxing for decades, he's paid boxers what he felt they were worth/what he could get away with, he's not paid them over the odds out of kindness - the same as every other business man, including fast Eddie I'd imagine.
Burns bass been a pro for donkeys years and had an Indian summer to his career, if he wanted to be financially set through his efforts then of course he'd listen to other people and take advice. My mind boggles that a lawyer would advise him to jump ship of he were under a contract, the lawyer ought to be made to explain their advise, Burns can't be faulted really, Warren will have made good money off his back and I imagine his home is bought and paid for and he's no worries for retirement - let's be clear about it, Mr Warren has risked money while the boxers have risked their health and lives.
I thought that Eddie / Matchroom had a reputation of being the best payers (and also that they do actually pay!).mickey1975 wrote:To be fair, my pals who've boxed on his show say he pays better than Eddie.palooka wrote:Though the grass is sometimes greener and Mr Warren has been at the top of British boxing for decades, he's paid boxers what he felt they were worth/what he could get away with, he's not paid them over the odds out of kindness - the same as every other business man, including fast Eddie I'd imagine.
