@Corker77...good response Matt and thanks for the detailed reply.
I come from your background - but as someone who has worked closely with editors/journos and in other sectors - so I do realise that things like budgets, staff numbers, the wider commercial concerns of publishers who are running a business and deadline constraints actually mean that an editor is often a fixer-in-chief rather than someone who has the power to wave a magic wand and publish exactly what he thinks is right and whenever he wants. The days of the editor being king - able to make each issue his own - are well and truly gone and are not not coming back.
I still buy BN but not every week; and the reason why is that I still don't like are those filler pages where the team chatting to itself about the week ahead and we get polls and lazy top-tens as well....the heartbeat of the magazine should still be current news and using some of the great global contacts/network you used to have...not the team sitting around saying 'well, I think this.' Sounds harsh, but you are a weekly news title and opinon-ed pieces should be the preserve of the editoral leader and not extend into the meat of the magazine?
