So we have a 154 pound division - junior middle, and a 160 pound division - middleweight, and Canelo wants to fight for the middleweight division belt at 155. Yeah that makes perfectly good sense - NOT!

I disagree. Russia has never been European. It has always been a misconception, IMO. I do realize that I hold a minority position.ikorolev wrote:So, England having colonies in Africa made them African ? Russia was a European country until it started spreading East.Tanzio wrote:It is a big stretch to claim Russia is European, let alone Kazahkstan.ikorolev wrote:
He belongs to the Soviet school of boxing making him Russian boxing wise. Besides, his father was Russian and his first language is Russian.
Would a boxer from Kamchatka be considered European?
I have never understood so many Russians desire to be considered European. I believe the roots of it go back to Peter The Great.

Catchweights are the biggest joke in boxing. If you can't fight at the weight then you have no business being in that division.

Canelo is claiming he is "1 to 2 years away from being ready to fight at 160 pounds."
http://www.BS.com/golovkins-tr ... 160--97260?
Yet 30 days out from his upcoming fight with Cotto he is still 168 pounds.

I have a lot of time for Canelo. But who is he trying to kid with this crap? He might as well just come out and say he doesn't want to fight GGG. That sure as hell is the message that is coming across - loud and clear.

Here I thought Canelo would be man enough to fight GGG, but guess I was wrong. He hasn't even beat Cotto yet, but the fool is already talking about being the A side and calling the shots vs GGG? I would even hesitate to call either guy elite, the way Trout and Floyd clowned them.

Very true. The only reason Lara lost that fight is he pissed the judges off from moving too much. Canelo "won it" with about 50 body shots, and they all didn't land clean.
Re: Canelo says Golovkin must fight him at 155lb catch-weight
Caneol get rocked by GGG
Re: Canelo says Golovkin must fight him at 155lb catch-weight
I wonder if they eventually agree on some kind of catch weight, like 157 or 158. Otherwise if Canelo vacates Oscar will look a bit silly after promising us the fight.

This fight ain't happening
Re: Canelo says Golovkin must fight him at 155lb catch-weight
I had Canelo winning that fight on his more effective body work. Which is worth as much as headshots, more if the quality of the punches are better, which is what I saw in this case.Badhusker wrote:ikorolev wrote:... and Lara too. I think it's strange how some people have this weird thing about body punches, as if they somehow "count" less than headshots. "oh, he only landed to the body"......So?
Also, it's pretty absurd at this point to question Alvarez' guts. He's clearly willing to take on whoever is put in front of him, many times on others' terms. If he gets to use something to a bit of an advantage at some point, I see no particular big problem. He'd get beaten down pretty brutally by Golovkin either way.
Re: Canelo says Golovkin must fight him at 155lb catch-weight
It wasn't that the body shots counted less, it is the number of punches landed by Canelo was a lot less. He was outboxed and looked lost at times. He was credited for many punches that were blocked. Lara landed the more solid shots imo, and many more punches. His fault he lost anyway, he ran too much.
I think if Canelo fights Andrade, he will have much more trouble. Andrade is about 4 inches taller than Lara with more reach, and according to Virgil Hunter he has better over-all skills than Lara does. So anyway, if Canelo stays at 154 (or his new weight class) he has some good competition with Andrade and the Charlo brothers at least.

One might say, he gets the kicks out of it.Tanzio wrote:Tarkus wrote:I wonder if they eventually agree on some kind of catch weight, like 157 or 158. Otherwise if Canelo vacates Oscar will look a bit silly after promising us the fight.ODLH has no problem looking silly periodically.
I am just saying that there will be overall pressure to make the unification if Canelo has a title. He would not want to join the illustrious list of boxers that vacated rather then fight Golovkin.
Re: Canelo says Golovkin must fight him at 155lb catch-weight
Well, more fuel on the fire. Canelo can claim that he is only holding Gennady and Loeffler to what they've already agreed to:
"Loeffler said that Golovkin would have no problem fighting at a catchweight against Alvarez, who fought Lara in a 155-pound bout.
“We’ve always said that if there is a compelling fight, Gennady would move up or down, we’ve talked about moving up to 168 for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. because that would be a pay-per-view fight and if it’s Canelo, then I’m sure that we could work out a catchweight if he wanted to work out a catchweight and if it’s in his best interest. So that would certainly be a pay-per-view fight,” said Loeffler.
“There wouldn’t be any issues for us to come down to fight Canelo. There would still be a title on the line for Gennady because he would be fighting under 160, so he would be able to defend the titles at 156 or whatever you have the weight be. But Gennady would be willing to come down in weight to fight Canelo. I wouldn’t say it would be at 154 but certainly, given that Canelo fought his last fight at 155, then you could say that Gennady would certainly be willing to come down in weight to make the Canelo fight.”

Sure, if Canelo didn't move up to fight for the MW WBC and lineal titles, he could lure Golovkin down with big money.
However if he gets that belt (instead of Golovkin who is a mandatory for Cotto), then Canelo has to have the mandatory defense which should be at the full weight or drop the belt.

Re: Canelo says Golovkin must fight him at 155lb catch-weight
Must the mandatory defense be at the full weight? If both sides agree on catchweight wont WBC grant it a mandatory defense status. Otherwise they can make it a voluntary and postpone mandatory once again.ikorolev wrote:Sure, if Canelo didn't move up to fight for the MW WBC and lineal titles, he could lure Golovkin down with big money.

Re: Canelo says Golovkin must fight him at 155lb catch-weight
If both fighters agree to a catchweight then of course it can be done at 155. However you are only allowed a certain number of voluntaries, and WBC has already said it must GGG next. So basically if GGG says no catchweight then Canelo will have to fight at 160 or vacate. GGG being the mandatory gives him the power here.Tarkus wrote:Must the mandatory defense be at the full weight? If both sides agree on catchweight wont WBC grant it a mandatory defense status. Re: Canelo says Golovkin must fight him at 155lb catch-weight
Loeffler should suggest that Canelo vacates the belt then once the title changes hands GGG will fight him in a non-title bout at 155. It will show that Golovkin is willing to give in to his demands but won't disgrace the history of the division by taking part in any title fight catchweight nonsense.
Hopefully the Mexican Nation will shame Canelo into growing a pair rather than having to say that he only wants the fight if it is for the middleweight belt but it's mandatory that neither fighters weighs in as a middleweight.

Someone needs to remind Canelo he hasn't beaten Cotto yet.

True.Badhusker wrote:Someone needs to remind Canelo he hasn't beaten Cotto yet.
But do you think Miguel "Do I look like a middleweight?" is going to act any differently on the catchweight?
You have Canelo complaining about not giving advantages and Cotto's history of putting a belt on the line while not being able to come in at the weight limit of that belt.
Golovkin's gonna have to come down or goodbye payday.
Lucky for him he already has said he will.

GGG is the 160 pound champ and should be allowed to defend at that weight
Re: Canelo says Golovkin must fight him at 155lb catch-weight
I thought he did more effective work to the body in the rounds I scored for him, than Lara's work which consisted mainly of weaker jabs in my view.Badhusker wrote:It wasn't that the body shots counted less, it is the number of punches landed by Canelo was a lot less. I do think Andrade and the Charlo brothers would be competitive (and Lara in a rematch, for that matter) with him if he went back to 154.
Re: Canelo says Golovkin must fight him at 155lb catch-weight
"If he went back to 154". Good point, and pathetic at the same time for Canelo. Making a new weight class at 155? WTF?! Boxing commissions are a laughing stock letting this happen. I shouldn't say laughing because other than the mexican community, it is an out right joke and an outrage.
fornicate Canelo and his weight class he wants to create!!! Get your fat fornicating red haired Opie ass down to 154 or move up you undisciplined spoiled diva!
Oscar will tell you that your are all that, but we have all seen different, and your ass handed to you by good boxers. Also, you fornicating moron, quit talking about GGG until you beat Cotto! Either you or your team are morons. Maybe both.
