As much as it can be viewed as an indulgence for the board, and yes I can see why some would see it this way due to the board's failings, it is also for the fighters, managers, promoters and press, to make them feel a part of something, I think that these events should be seen for what they are, trying to create a feelgood factor. I certainly think that they are worth reporting on as they are good for the sport.

Gatti Dorin will be shown still. It's next year we have to worry about, that's when we will find out just how much the Boxing coverage will atrophy.

I could be kidding myself but I think they had a pic up of it with the date at the end of the Barrera-Ayala coverage. Hope they are.

I've always said as soon as AH got the boot the rest would follow. The premiership highlights programme was the final nail in the coffin for boxing. Boxing for them was a cheap replacement while ITV still had the footie highlights.....plus they knew it'd attract a decent crowd.

I just hope ITV get interested

Why oh why won't ITV screen boxing again, it used to be one of their biggest draws, but they don't seem at all interested.

James, did you ever watch boxing first on ITV2 (then it was moved to their sports channel before it went bust)?

Bunce was on there and it was a really good show.........I got to Vargas/Mosley and other HBO shows nearly every 2 weeks. Good interviews with Larry Holmes. This was the kind of format I wanted the BBC to take.

Nah, never had ITV2. However, ITV used to have excellent boxing shows, before Football became the be all and end all of sports coverage.

Chris, you can't have it both ways. First you say it was shit, then you say it was a lavish event.
It was neither. The Board hired an everyday catering company for the meal (friendly staff, tasty food), had a few bottles of bubbly at the reception (which was soon wolfed down), hired the City hall out - that's it. The people there made it: the boxers, the champions, the unsung heroes, the greats.
Two moments made it for me. 1) George Feeney told me Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini so hurt him to the body - broke his ribs in fact - that he was determined to have something to show for the 10-rounder (which he lost on points). He cleared £23,000 for the fight (a fortune in 1983), walked into an estate agents in his hometown of Hartlepool and bought the biggest house he could for the money. He still lives in the house.
2) Steve Sims slipped me a card which read: "Licenced fitness instructor: expert in all aspects of fitness and dietary techniques, specialising in cardiovascular regimes.
"Also a licenced doorman."
It was a celebration of them. Christ, if various governments can spend millions celebrating the 50th anniversary of D-Day last month (an absolute massacre), then the Board can spend a few quid celebrating their 75th birthday.

How can you compare the Boards (boreds) dinner with bloody D-Day? thousands of brave men died on D-day, apart from a few day's of the shits I don't think there were any casualities at the dinner.

He wasn't being disrespectful, he was simply saying that if the Government can afford to spend millions on the D-Day celebrations, why can't the Board spend a couple of nicker on thier own celebrations. After all the government have used mone that should be used for the NHS, Schools etc, while the money the board spent money that could have been used to pay for MRI scans.
