It used to be that top ten contenders would stay in the gym in order to be prepared for jusst such opportunities should they arise. Now, these guys act as it heavyweight title shots grow on trees or something...

Every negative you've listed with regards to Pianeta will be seen as positives to Wilder's people.
This fight was scheduled weeks and weeks ago. There was plenty of time to negotiate for some decent opposition. Short notice equates to sub par and either last chance, or never would have gotten a chance, at a title shot fighters. Pianeta is well and truly qualified. No-one with a chance at a mandatory shot -- especially with the IBF stripping Fury -- is going to take a short time, short money offer from Wilder.
I don't think they even want to risk Wilder against guys like Adamek, Cunningham and Chisora. Too solid, too consistent and -- once upon a time at least -- too classy.

Exactly that is what American fighters do these days with the exception of a few.

Blame Glazkov for Wilder's lack of opponent for January. It was clearly a duck, but Wilder will end up with the criticism for it. Blame Povetkin for not being ready to fight Wilder also in December or January, as he knew the schedule, but took the Wach fight instead.

We all want to see Wilder tested, but I have yet to read or hear anything about him ducking any heavyweight. The Molina fight was to test his recently broken hand, which showed....being very reluctant to throw it. Duhapas was a stay busy fight, and he was ranked by the WBC. He was willing to fight Povetkin in December or January, but blame Povetkin for that. His fight with Wach was his choice. Now he has to wait. As for Wilder short notice now makes it hard to find a good opponent, but not his fault Glazkov took the easy way out.

I totally get the criticism for Wilder and his lack of top opponents, but a couple of you guys are downright stupid with your hate.

What about Ustinov, get him to cancel the farce that is the Peter fight. Deontay will have a big boy to play with then.

It really is sad.The WBC ratings and all other alphabet ratings are a joke.
Once you show interest in fighting for another groups titles you are then unranked by the others.
Why not just rate all contenders?
And then you have the mysterious fighter who just pops into the top 15 from no where.

If you want to get a shot at a title just have a big time promoter or be willing to pay for the ranking.

The whole Tarver-Cunningham fight was made hoping there would be a clear winner to generate interest in a Wilder fight, even though stylistically they both should be beaten soundly.

Cunningham is a easy fight to make, still has enough of a name to market on PBC and with enough spin can be talked about as a credible opponent.

Povetkin's people agreed to put it off so that both could have interim fights.

Like I said the most logical fight to be made on short notice.

I hope it will become Briggs, when that happens we're at least rid of one annoying American, since I expect a draw to be allmost impossible.
If the WBC makes it impossible, perhaps Wilder can fight for a WBA rank, it's really annoying that there is so much politics involved in boxing nowadays.
