You know, I feel genuinely embarrassed reading comments from people like you, it's sad that because he's a boxer you'll let him say and do what he likes without the criticism it deserves. It isn't about having opinions, no one really gives a eff what most people think, he's entitled to hold those views, but he isn't entitled to have those views put in the paper and be immune from the criticism it deserves, no one is, the fact you think he deserves to be immune says quite a lot about you. Would you be saying the same thing about radical Islamists? Are their views okay to be put in the paper and not be criticised? After all it's their interpretation of their religion just like Fury's. He didn't make any hateful comments? You're having a laugh, if you don't understand why what he said was wildly offensive you should leave the commenting to the adults as you clearly don't have the critical faculties to understand even minutely what he was saying, this comes after you swallowed (oooh) wholely his nonsense about being misquoted and misrepresented without even the faintest pause for thought just because HE said it.

People can hold whatever opinion they like, but if you don't want the media to have a pop, or the general public keep it to your self, it's fairly obvious to most of us.
I feel embarrassed by people like you, you assume far to much about what I think and how I can analyse information -

firstly the comments were published in the biggest joke of a newspaper going - the daily mail, the reporter has already admitted he misquoted fury.

Secondly its not his misinterpretation of the religion - it is the religion. Homosexuality and abortions are anti the catholic religion; the largest Christian religion in the world.

Actually no he didn't, they printed the audio and full transcript to show he didn't misquote or misrepresent him.

Catholicism is one interpretation of the bible, there are many Christian religions that differ from Catholicism, I thought that was obvious.

What's a stupid argument there are different Christian religions but the Catholic religion is larger than all of the others put together. He is Catholic that's like saying a Buddhist should subscribe to Judaism because you don't agree with his beliefs.

So what are you saying, he's a practicing Catholic his views apart from the sexism are the view of the Catholic Church. It's as simple as that.

I'm saying Catholicism is only one interpretation of the bible, there are many. The entire bible is sexist by the way. I don't know what difference this makes, it's neither here nor there in this conversation, I just compared it to radical Islam to make a point, you wouldn't want their views in a paper without criticism would you? Also, it's curious that the last sign of the apocalypse is legalised paedophilia and this is being said by a catholic.

You are still not explaining yourself, he is not a different religion he is Catholic, it's not a cult it's the leading Christian religion. He's not misinterpreting the the religion - that is the religion.

What has radical Islam got to do with it?

I'm saying that just because he believes it doesn't mean it should be listened to and go uncriticsed in the media. Ffs.

I guess the pertinent question is why Fury is being pilloried for talking about what is apparently acceptable within Catholicism - why doesn't the Pope get investigated in the same manner?

Has the pope come out and said what Fury said? I'm not particularly up on the bible but I'm not sure it's written that the three signs of the apocalypse are abortion, homosexuality and paedophilia being legalised.

I don't think abortion is mentioned in the bible

The odd thing is; we're told we have to respect people's religion but also human rights and choice. Yet the old testament says gays should be killed, islam too.

I've no respect for anyone's religion. It's all utter guff, filled with misery, hate, and contradiction.

Quite. There are plenty of good examples where the masses are too easily offended by alternative opinions. I don't think this is one of them. Fury's come across as a bigot walking backwards in a slurry of his own making.

The irony is how some people are blaming racism towards the travelling community. Isn't that 'PC'!?

Then criticise the religion (like they would dare), don't witchhunt the man. He has the right to believe what he wants surely? He's not killing homosexuals or raping women, his wife isn't doing anything against her will.

Show me where Catholicism teaches that the third sign of the apocalypse is legalised paedophilia, Steve? He talked absolute bollocks and he's rightly being taken to task for it. If he wants to believe it he can believe what he can, but you know keep it private and out of the paper, or else expect the reaction.

Is Catholicism above criticism? Christianity is routinely scrutinised.

Also, the bbc sports personality of the year is about achievement not actual personality ffs.
What did he say that was of so much significance? This country has turned so politically correct its unreal, he didn't make any hateful comments. He doesn't agree with homosexuality or abortions, he's strict catholic its part of the bloody religion, where's the shock in that. He said Jessica Ennis has achieved great things and looks bang tidy - I say that all the time. He said he thinks women belong in the kitchen but if they want to box who is he to dictate what they are allowed to do - take a look at him and his wife together does it look like she's lacking empowerment?

people aren't allowed to have their own opinions these days.

I don't think people are upset that other's are criticising Fury's views. I, and I assume others, are angry because the reaction has been akin to a witch hunt where people are decrying his right to hold or express his opinions. Rather than set out why they think Fury is wrong or why they disagree they are trying to have him arrested, silenced and totally ignored for having the temerity to express an opinion that deviates from the very narrow set of opinions we are permitted to communicate these days.

It is fascism where people demand total conformity of views on all manor of subjects.

Is it a witch hunt? Or just a mass of people finding his opinions highly offensive? I think the latter.

Well I'm Catholic albeit not a practicing one and you can either research it or take my word on it, the pope is the head of the Catholic Church and that church teaches that homosexuality, abortion, peadophilia, contraception and sex before marriage are all sins. The new pope tried to encourage the church to be more liberal and he was veto'd by the other high ranking Catholics.

Now personally I'm not particularly religious and they aren't my beliefs and a lot of the Catholic Church is very moderate, however a lot of the Catholic Church is equally hard line.

Your clinging onto the parts he's said about the apocalypse, that's a red hearing, the things he believes to be sins are the teaching of Catholicism.

I've got no issue with religious views being challenged or religions being challenged, but to demonise a person and have the police investigate them over expressing main stream religious views is plain stupid.

His views are not extremist, he was not inciting hate. This is a country that promotes freedom of speech and he can say what he wants within reason. If people don't like it don't listen to him.

The fact people want him banned from SPOTY, investigated by the police and consider refusing to share a stage with him constitutes a witch hunt in my opinion.

It is absolutely farcical- we have respected world statesmen that have been involved in the bombing and killing of civillians. Yet, Fury says stuff that people don't agree with and they want him excommunicated from society.
