Actions speak louder than words and I think Fury could be relied on to make Ennis a sandwich afterwards.

It's times like this when you feel that democracy isn't always a good idea because it gives idiots an opportunity! Would have been happy with Ennis, Farah, Murray or Fury winning! But for an athlete from a fairly marginal team sport to garner 28% of the votes and place a close 2nd, it shows what a waste of time it all is !

Farah Placing no where is a disgrace, the guy is a phenom in a sport with huge global participation!

Ennis essentially showed again she is the best all round female athlete in the world ( Serena may disagree ;) )

Murray consistently near the top of the most talented era in Tennis history.

Watching it tonight was often cringeworthy. It's a dated, pointless award that needs putting out to pasture. Very 'eurovisiony' at times, and about as prestigious too.

Nowadays it's for sports that are favoured by the BBC and it shows big time in the coverage given to each contender during their profiles.

The Davis Cup is a third rate competition in a second rate sport. Athletics is BBC's baby because no self respecting designated sports channel would bother with such nonsense, hello, the Olympics finished over three years ago, get over it!

Sky should start their own version, it would be ten times more entertaining that's for sure!

I'd agree it's a meaningless competition, and that the Davis Cup is a paltry competition, however, I love a bit of tennis, grand slam finals are amongst the most tense and intense competitions out there. I've seen some absolute humdingers over the years.

Sky did used to do their own version, didn't they? I remember Naz fvcking up and accidentally introducing someone (possibly Frank Bruno?) as Sylvester Stallone, thereby giving away the 'surprise' guest who hadn't yet been announced

To be fair if the government wanted to help themselves to half of my earnings I'd fornicate off too, it's funny how if you want to become a sportsman the government does nothing to help you yet if you become a success from sport and make lots of money they can't get enough of you. I'd move, probably not to Monaco because it's such a sterile place, in fact I'd stay where I am, 20% income tax limit here.

I agree about the programme. I've always thought it was boring pointless rubbish and so never watched it.
I think if Sky started one......well, maybe that's why they don't, for the above reason.

I'm glad Fury turned up, didn't say anything daft and actually came 4th, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and a few others. Including both Ennis Hill and Rutherford.

I disagree with you on the Tennis - sure, the Davis Cup I've been familiar with for 15 years but I have no understanding of the format whatsoever and I noticed we've just beaten two lads from Belgium who I'd never heard of, to win something we've never won in 79 years. To be fair - nearly every country you go to, Tennis is a bigger deal than in the UK.
The big tennis tournaments don't come round very often either - so it suffers on that front - only 4 grand slams in the year - however - I do believe it is a sport for proper, serious athletes and it is very capable of throwing up drama and skills and grit and etc etc as any other sport on it's day. It's miles better than Rugby and Cricket in my book.
Also look at some of the athletes and personalities it has given over the years - some absolute giants. A Novak or a Sampras could hang with any footballer in a fitness test.

Murray was a worthy winner. He gave everything this year to ensure Britain won the Davis cup whilst maintaining a high level on the tour all year. He's an unbelievable tennis player and that showed throughout that tournament win.

Glad Ennis-Hill placed, going off to have a child then coming back to show you're still not is incredible and I'm sure pretty much every rugby league fan voted for sinfield in the way cycling fans did for hoy.

Rutherford was unlucky as he's probably one of our only athletes who has dominated his discipline. Olympic, world, European, commonwealth and diamond league winner.

Farah has been tainted by doping scandals around his coach, f1 is boring these days too.

Some of us have a bit more or expect a bit more loyalty to the country that educated us, provided us with health care and the people round about us. If your sole drive in life is how much money you can have/save over anything else then it's a bit sad.
