He made over 6 million fighting those guys. Now he will make over 4 million for Povetkin.
It is all about the money
2 million a fight for fighting 2 bums and a decent HW. I see what you are saying to an extent. That is what boxing has come. You take the fight with the least amount of risk for the most amount of money. Floyd patented that. Look at 147 and you will see that outside of porter vs. brook and pacman vs. bradley none of the other top ten guys have even fought each other once!

That is the sick joke boxing has become.
It happened way before Floyd .
Larry Holmes passed on Greg Page for double the money to face Marvin Frazier

YESTERDAY?!?!
"We’re very happy to fight for 70 percent of 7.15 million on our side,” DiBella said to Rafael at ESPN.com. “There was never any chance that Deontay was going to vacate his title. The fight is happening. If they put the fight in Russia, then I hope [Russian President Vladimir] Putin can personally attend so he can watch ‘Sasha’ get knocked out.”
when you don't hear from a guy for a matter of hours you are deafened by silence?
maybe go for a walk and get some fresh air or talk to someone outside in real life.
go for a jog or swim. mow the lawn. watch a movie. wilder will be out in public again
tomorrow or monday.

Lol, yeah, no possible way they are trying to negotiate the fight in the US. Boxing fans suck more than any other. Never happy and 90% are completely retarded and think they're experts.

Nope, I wasn't joking. Unlike most on this forum, I believe Wilder is quite good, and one of the top talents in the division.
First off, I think it's silly to assume that Wilder will run from a challenge.
Secondly, I believe he beats Povetkin handily.
Povetkin is overrated, while Wilder is underrated.
Povetkin is overrated at this forum only. At the betting sites Wilder is likely to win, wherever the fight will take place.

I'll have a massive respect for Povetkin if he still fights in the US after winning the purse bid, Wilder absolutely doesn't deserve a damn thing, but I think even the American crowd will give Povetkin a massive applause, even if he loses.

Povetkin will fight wherever he will be told by Riabinsky! So is Wilder, by the way (only by his manager).
If Riabinsky will get 3-4 millions from Kremlin - he'll arrange ridiculuos patriotic show in Moscow. If he will not - the fight will be in US, since Riabinsky cannot earn 7M in Russia.
For Klitchko-Povetkin Kremlin paid 14M (via RosNeft, government company) and it ended as major upset and disgrace. I believe they will not do it this time...but go understand Russians

Well just because Riabinsky won the purse bid, it doesn't mean the fight can't still be in the US. They've won the rights to promote the fight, but they could promote that fight anywhere.
Jay Deas, Wilder's promoter, is hopeful that the fight can still be made in the US. The Barclays Centre is owned by a Russian, and there is a large Russian community in Brooklyn. Throw in the fact that the dollar is stronger than the ruble, he'd take much less of a loss hosting the fight in the states.
I for one could see why Wilder would vacate, but would not endorse that decision. Adversity is not an excuse in sport. I personally don't think he will vacate, and as the odds do suggest, its a genuine 50:50 fight. Two fighters of contrasting style. One technically brilliant, and one with an explosive finish. Could go either way. See Povetkin over the distance, or Wilder in the stoppage.

Excellent post.
Wilder v Povetkin could also be successfully promoted for Vegas, LA, Miami, or Atlanta, IMO. I still think that Moscow is the front runner though. Plenty of money to be thrown around, no matter the exchange rate.

so we had responses the day of the bid (friday) and today (monday), and nothing anyone
ever associated with him has ever said justifies all this speculation about him ducking or
being afraid. wbc said povetkin delayed the fight and forced the purse bid, the contracts
haven't even been printed to sign yet and the site and date haven't even been announced.
it's pretty rare to see so much unfounded hope that a titlist might be afraid of a challenger.

And how can he earn 7.5 million in America? Is Showtime going to pay 5 million? I doubt it very much. Otherwise Haymon would bid more. It makes no sense for Povetkin to win a bid and then take it America.

Here let me help you with the quotations mate.
Yeah of course, Wilder is a very loose fighter and often looks unbalanced and a bit uncoordinated. So would look even more technically astute in comparison.
Povetkin is technically excellent. He has good balance, good feet, fights on the front foot, is a big puncher, likes to get on the inside and throws some really good combos. I don't believe there are many of his technical level. I think the only poor performance on his record was against Klitchko. He just did not turn up, which may suggest he doesn't handle pressure well. But technically there are not many who can challenge him.

If you'd read it properly you'd see I do not endorse any decision to vacate, and I like everyone would be extremely disappointed. I think if anything, the evidence suggests that Wilder will not vacate, and he will meet Povetkin in the ring in his next fight.
I don't think Wilder has done anything wrong in his career so far, he has an unblemished record, albeit on most part against limited opposition, but I believe Szpilka was definitely a worthy opponent. He'll fight Povetkin next, and I think he's already started to pave the way for a unification with Fury. We'll judge Wilder on his actions at the end of his career, rather than looking for a scapegoat before it happens.
