It seemed that unfortunately the only people that thought he wouldn't win other then me were the bookies.
Can't agree with Tyson V Lewis being Tysons greatest fight, after the first round Tyson looked a shot fighter.

Didn't know he had broken his jaw but I knew he had broken his collerbone I think that was against James Tillis, but I'm only 90% sure.
I think actually he may have broke his jaw in the Damiani fight, his fight after Tyson. I remember he took a real shellacking in that one too.... Biggs had a very brave management team! 8) .

Wasn't it also one of the Duva's that said after the first Chavez - Taylor fight that- "Meldrick didn't lose 2 pints of his own blood, because he swallowed most of it".

Yeh, Thats Duva. I have a really good book called 'Ringmasters' which looks at the lives and work of great boxing trainers like Gil cLANCY, Ray Arcel, Eddie Futch etc... anyway Duva is in it too and is the only one of them that I come away not liking... at one point he tells how a figher of his is cut with a accidental butt and how inbetween the rounds he (Duva) opens the cut wider with his thumb and forefinger so that his fighter would win by an accidentail butt!

.... he said something like it only cost his fighter a few extra stitches!...... left a nasty taste in my mouth that did!... :x

:x :x 8)

Am I right in thinking the Damiani v Biggs fight was stopped because of a Biggs cut?

Re: Biggs-Tyson rivalry:
From what I recall of the '84 Olympic trials was a story about Tyson and his team wanting him to fight as super HW but US officials clearly wanted Biggs as super so Tyson fought as HW, where he lost to Tillman. There was much politicking over this, as I recall.
Before the Biggs fight, I recall reading that this was a Team Tyson motivator - the born-with-silver-spoon-in-mouth Biggs versus the no-one-ever-gave-me-nuthin' Tyson. It must have been in Ring magazine, as I read it religiously back then. I've just watched the fight again and there's no talk of that in the preamble or post fight interviews.
But that fight was an awesome spectacle, and example of what an angry but disciplined Mike could do.
