Re: Canelo drops the belt

It was to be expected...
Really is embarrassing. Its boxers like Mayweather who have turned the elite of the sport into divas who think they are bigger than boxing itself and are afraid to challenge themselves against the best unless everything is in their favour. The elite now would rather just cherry pick easy pay days to protect the 0 or avoid a loss not caring about the fans who want these big fights. Canelo is going to lose a lot of fans from this and his warrior Mexican image will never be the same unless he fights GGG next.Batley18 wrote:Absolute disgrace, coming out with the comments he did after the Khan fight and then being a little bitch when it came to backing it up. Why can't we have the big fights we want any more.
I think a lot of it comes down to the devaluing of the World belts. He doesn't care about dropping it because he knows he could happily step back down to LMW and the WBC will give him first crack at the title. The WBC should be furious that their title holder has vacated the belt, but it won't work out that way. Back in the good ol' days, if you dropped a belt, you may not get a crack at it again for 5+ fights. Now, you can happily drop a belt and just go for one of the others.Reece_D wrote:Really is embarrassing. I honestly don't think Canelo can make 154 anymore to challenge for any title at LMW. its also not going to be long where he can't make 155 as well and will then start campaigning at 157 or something. Canelo just has no respect for boxing or the fans what so ever and the fans should show this respect back. Until he now starts fighting at 160 he's no longer relevant to me.Batley18 wrote:I think a lot of it comes down to the devaluing of the World belts. Face the best only if they are smaller than him.Ricky_ wrote: It would surprise me as well, I always got the impression Canelo was a good guy for wanting to face the best.
B*llocks, he faced everyone at LMW.ttornado wrote:Face the best only if they are smaller than him.Ricky_ wrote: It would surprise me as well, I always got the impression Canelo was a good guy for wanting to face the best.
Who considering the weight he rehydrates to, were smaller than him.Ricky_ wrote:

Are you serious?Ricky_ wrote:ttornado wrote:Who considering the weight he rehydrates to, were smaller than him.Ricky_ wrote:

I think you mean bigger than him?
Anyway, Trout and Kirkland are bigger than Canelo. Lara isn't as heavy but he's taller with a longer reach and used those size advantages to good effect in a close fight. Angulo is a decent size. Cotto was only slightly smaller.
So; Trout, Kirkland, Lara, Cotto, Angulo.
Even guys like Cintron and Mosley have been around the LMW division. Ryan Rhodes spent most his career at MW.
To say that Canelo has been actively ducking fighters his own size is ridiculous, i'm not sure who you expect him to have fought, he fought everyone at Light Middleweight, big and small.
So you want it both ways? He only fights smaller guys but if he fights a bigger guy then they were drained?runner_phob wrote:Kirkland and Angulo had to cut huge amount of weight and were not in a good shape. Trout is not bigger than Canelo.
When they fought they both scaled in at 172 ring weight. Trout therefore being taller/rangier while weighing the same edges him as the bigger man.Pureist wrote:Weights on fight night, canelos much heavier, trout may be taller but that's where it ends
What I'm saying is he has only started to duck fighters now that the opponents are his size.Ricky_ wrote:

runner_phob wrote:Kirkland and shot Angulo were cherry picked, as Team Canelo knew that they wouldn't be in a good condition.
By the way, it looks like DLH and Canelo have never planned to fight GGG this year. Even before dropping the belt, they contacted completely shot Maklin

Lineal = no obligations, allow fighters to duck as they please
Unless the fight is made this year then to me it looks like a duck.Ricky_ wrote:
If canelo ducks GGG then sure. I'll criticise him as much as you. But laughing at his resume to this point is ridiculous, he's put together as good a resume as he possibly could have given his age and the competitors in his division.
