He should try being a promoter and promote stuff and things might work out quite well.

He could try having a look at Eddie Hearns and try to pick up a few tricks.

He hasn't got sky's backing though which helps a lot and that's not a dig at the hearns either. If he tried putting on better shows, he'd probably have to take money out of the channel to do so thus decreasing the production value (which isn't saying a whole lot) even more and would also not have the money to buy ads, etc, to get people interested in watching.

No, he should put more effort into promoting and put on better and more regular shows.
He's hardly got any fighters worth caring about now. That where would he display them if he took the money out of the channel to put on better shows?
its his job to make us care about them isn't it?
He should be putting on a couple thousand seater events in Wales (Williams, Enzo, Romaeo), Liverpool (Selkirk, Lewis, Stalker), Manchester (H.Fury, Catterall, Askin, Blackledge), London (Skeete, Ovill, Patterson, Smith) Birmingham (Langford, Costello) focusing on the local guys and building a fanbase for each.
He has his own tv station so each show can fill a slot alongside his UK tent pole events with T.Fury, BJS, Smith and Flanagan and his international content.
Have Francis run the smaller shows and Frank can do the tent poles.
Everything needs improving from BN...

He doesn't even make the most of the free media. He doesn't even seem to be trying.

I'm not sure that he still has the ambition at this stage to be a top promoter.

He doesn't even try to get bums with a name for his fighters, he just gets bums.

He's being lazy. I think that he might be depressed.

Yeah but for me it's a lot tougher when your promotional outlet ie is a niche channel aimed at boxing fans versus sky sports which has incredible resources and for which you can cross promote on various platforms eg sky sports news, sky news, soccer AM, etc, etc.

I agree with a lot of what your saying but what free media are you talking about?

He doesn't need skys backing, he just has to get back to grass roots promoting.
Get local guys and build them up, local radio, local papers and posters along with his own channel.
Sean Dodd didn't have sky backing and he does a shit load of tickets before he was on the channel...

I do however think that Frank and allegedly don't make the most of twitter and all the other social media platforms. That's an area that Eddie is particulary good at I think to give him his props.

of course its tougher but it just means you have to work harder.
Invest in social media and get some young documentary makers to get half an hours footage on your up and comers and put it on the channel.
You have to think outside of the box...

The internet in general for starters.

I think that's the main thing Horse was alluding to regarding free media.

Image and hype are big things in Matchrooms favour too. Let's not forget there was a time when Sky were backing Sports network in a big way, and the image of Frank was not of someone letting the media in and appearing to speak frankly with guys like ifl tv about what was going on. It was his newspaper column and people asking what quite clearly appeared to be pre rehearsed questions. And then there's all the legal action against all manner of fighters. I remember Audley getting frozen out of the domestic scene, with no chance of fighting Franks heavyweights unless he signed with them. Amazing how angry Frank gets in some interviews (even tonight's one) now the shoes on the other foot and the money's elsewhere, and it's him begging for it to be a co-promotion.

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are Burns vs Beltran and Cleverly vs Kovalev and they were both a couple years ago.

Obviously Fury vs Klitchsko is coming up too, but they seem to be few and far between.

McDonnell vs Kameda was a voluntary wasn't it?

Kameda was a solid opponent, undefeated at 31-0 and considered one of the top fighters in the division. Plus travelled to the states to fight him. Gave him an immediate rematch too. They were good defences.

Also Crolla vs Barroso was a good voluntary against a dangerous fighter too.

Mcdonnell vs Kameda was only a voluntary because Kameda was forced to drop WBO strap, it was initially meant to be a unification.
Enjoyed both fights though, and Mcdonnell went up in my estimations greatly after both performances.

Borosso was Crolla's mandatory.

Spot on James ! Even when he had full sky backing and was in bed with the WBO, he put on cards stacked with his prospects v nobby Nobbs journeymen! His WBO champions fighting club fighters : Tocker Pudwill, Evans Ashari, Will McIntyre, Willard Lewis.....

Hmm good point Burns v Mitchell was a voluntary and whilst Burns smashed him it was seen as 50/50 at the time.

Not trying to be an arse, but what gives you the right to call someone who is brave enough to step into a boxing ring and risk their life, a 'bum'. Show some respect man.

A bum is an overmatched/terrible opponent.

Bum is a useful boxing word and it should be used when appropriate.

Stop being such a self-righteous bore.

A bit like the term keyboard warrior for someone who's never had the guts to step into a boxing ring.

Genuine question..... Why don't you go to a boxing gym and have a go?
