Despite Naz's reputation I'd be surprised if he "gobbed off" at him. At this time Naz was smashing everyone (including heavyweights) in the gym so I find stories of him getting slapped hard to believe.
I was told of a story from a very good source that Naz planted a very very tough former British cruiserweight champion. And that Naz would have been a handful for anyone - however big they were.

I always found it frustrating when sparring a newcomer or somebody significantly smaller - I don't see the point.

It isn't realistic as the more experienced / bigger boxer naturally holds back whilst the other boxer feels able to go all out. This would particularly apply to somebody with Naz's personality.

Naz could definitely bang but there is no way he would be able to handle heavyweights, particularly on the cobbles - he would just get ragged around and not even get the chance to get any shots off.

As I heard it, Naz was giving it the big "I am", the "look at me, the superstar" BS in the gym and Lloyd pretty much told him to save that bollox for outside the gym, not to do it in front of them, Naz carried on and Lloyd slapped him. Now I would not eff with big Lloyd and have no reason to disbelieve him
Like I said, I've heard lots of stories from the gym, had hundreds of conversations over the years with people from that gym, but find it strange that I have never heard this story - especially when you claimed it was front page news in the press. Which paper was it in?

Having seen Naz spar with heavyweights i can say you're wrong.

A well-known heavyweight wasn't holding back when he floored Naz and then Naz had to be pulled off him seconds later.

If Naz was smashing up pro heavies in sparring then why didn't he move up the weights - you know, starting by moving up to super- feather for example.

I also referred to the previous comment about an incident with a pro heavy who was working on a door - now, I am sure if Naz stole one on him or at least got the first clean shot in then I am sure he could have done something, otherwise he would have been ragged all over the place.

Naz was European champion at bantam, won "international" titles at super-bantam and world at feather. Brendan Ingle would agree with your point - he thought he'd be a multi-weight world champ.
I've asked about this supposed "incident" and haven't managed to find one person who had heard of it despite it supposedly featuring on the front page of newspapers.

Naz boxed at Bantam until he was 20 or 21 as his body grew and he moved up a whopping 4 pounds - if he was banging out pro heavies then he surely would have moved up the weights ?

I don't buy all this bollox about him beating up much bigger men (both in and out of the ring).

Bantam to feather is more than 4 pounds.
Nobody claimed he was "banging out" pro heavies. You claimed he couldn't handle heavyweights, I said you were wrong. He sparred most days with Johnny Nelson and Clifton Mitchell.
I now know a bodybuilder who picked a fight with Naz in a nightclub (when Naz was 18) who laughs at how he was knocked out with one punch outside the club.
Have you not heard stories of the likes of Jeff Fenech and Kirkland Laing knocking out 18 stone bodybuilders?
Naz had a well-publicised spat with Eubank at an airport. Which one ended up with the bloodied lip?
Neville Brown became British middleweight champion when Naz was 19. He said he had to be at the top of his game just to survive in the ring with him.

It isn't that hard to knock someone out, just look on youtube and your find hundreds of videos of street fights where the little guy wins. There's CCTV footage of a skinny girl flattening a bouncer, I'm sure if a girl can knock a bouncer out then a pro fighter wouldn't have too many problems, regardless of his size.

The truth is, when naz was sparring heavyweights, they would have been going easy on him, whilst Naz was probably going all out.

If an 18 stone fighter lands on a man of Naz's size with a full blooded shot, he'd be knocked spasticated.

Sparring stories are given far too much credence. It's not a real fight, it's a spar.

At last, somebody talking sense.

To the other posters, who is talking about "18 stone bodybuilders" - I thought we were talking about heavyweight professional boxers.

As I said previously, somebody who knows how to punch and has power can cause damage if they steal one or land a clean shot early - other than that, a 9 stone boxer would more often that not get ragged about by an 18 stone boxer.

Of course he bloody would. Bouncers and Bodybuilders aren't fighters, they are not used to taking punches for a living. Most of the bouncers I've met, especially say 10 years ago or more, were big, but cowardly, a lot of them round London used to carry knuckle dusters, coshes and the like in case things got a bit tasty, I've seen three bouncers kicking the shite out of a 19 year old kid in Sheperd's bush before, just because he got a bit lairy.

Probably. In fact certainly. But after seeing him ironed out by feather fisted Mayweather and face planted by Pac man, I'm not sure it would've been necessary!

Think it was before the McCullough fight. I heard Naz allegedly pinned Smith to the wall by his throat and Smith started crying.
Naz once asked claude abrams to body spar than gave him a nose bleed with a "accidental" punch in the bread basket. He also squared up to Colin Hart who he called Fart. and in his earlier days apparently he was antagonistic in interviews towards sheffields Pakistani brit populace?

KO Magazine around 95-96 carried a naz interview he said he was floored by a HW in sparring and walked in and just battered him to a stoppage. He also said he would fight Steve Collins in Ireland and would be a 6 division world champ.

I guess something changed in his thinking when Mayweather and Corralles and casamayor shortly after became champs at 130, and Shane Mosley at 135.

Naz came to the fore in a division that had been pitifully weak since 1991 I mean tom Johnson had been world champ since than! Wilfredo gomez, luisito Espinoza lol
