Whatever the reasons for his matchmaking, his reign as champion has been boring and he's yet to face a legitimate top ten challenger, unless you want to really stretch and act like the guy who got clowned by Jennings a few bouts before was a meaningful opponent.
Do you prefer him to sit on his ass for a year, like Fury?
At least he was busy...and we watched 4 KOs...

Am I complaining about his lack of activity?
Good on him for staying active, although considering the injuries he suffered last fight perhaps he would've been better off sitting out.

Fury made a lot of money vs Klitchko...and expects even more for the rematch. So he can sit on his ass and talk bullshit. Wilder earned peanuts(relatively) vs Stiverne...so he had to stay active waiting for Fury or maybe Joshua for the money fight.
Some crazy Russian money came, and he even agreed to go to Russia for it, but that screwed up.
He cannot sit out...he must earn.

He made 1.4m against Arreola, while Arreola received 125k. Also, Wilder had no choice left after losing the purse bid. Wada failing was his last hope, that's why he begged so badly to get Wada involved. After piles of tests there indeed showed up minor traces left of a substance that was clearly visable in his body the years before, when that was absolutely no problem. Wada didn't have a clue what they were doing and indeed screwed up.
That was a lucky getaway for Wilder, who seemed to be planning to never show up no matter what. He was more fat as I've ever seen him in his life, somehow he was in shape for Arreola just in time again.

Just checked the numbers.
Fury got 5.5-6.5M usd for his Champ fight (Klitchko got 11-13M usd). He'll get ~10M usd for the rematch.
Wilder got same 5M usd for Champ fight and 4 defenses. That's the reason why he's active.
And actually, when it said Fury or Wilder, it ment Boxer's team. Personally, boxers see about half or less in his bank account.
No real money in boxing anymore

Deontay made it look easy against Arreola, it was like a vacation with pay.
