Olympic hopefuls?
Re: Olympic hopefuls?
Amazing that Coral actually had Fowler the favourite for that fight.

Fowler looked terrible!
Lu Bin was pretty unlucky but him and Barnes both out in the same division makes it an interesting day in some ways given they were among the medal favourites.
Think Russo was lucky and the Russian who fought the Brazilian was fortunate too IMO

Was there a reason why some people were high on Fowler? I've seen him a few times and he's always looked...terrible. Was it just that he was a Scouser with mates who were pros?Cholo_cws wrote:Amazing that Coral actually had Fowler the favourite for that fight.

I didn't see his fight, but Russo has benefited from questionable judging and reffing for years.

Russo won round 3, first was close, 2nd was deffo to the other guyGraham Houston @fightwriterone 6h6 hours ago
Judges give Russo Rd 2. Don't agree. "Sentimental" scoring for popular Italian veteran

I've never been able to work out how he wins fights. He doesn't look fast or sharp or strong even, just, I've never seen feck-all from him, no offence like lah.Boxing Prospect wrote:Was there a reason why some people were high on Fowler? Seen some great performances in the WSB from Fowler. The fact that he qualified is an achievement in itself, same for all the GB squad.Counter-puncher wrote:I've never been able to work out how he wins fights. Looking forward to seeing him in the paid ranks. He's had tougher fights than he will get early so expect Matchroom to build his record quickly.
Re: Olympic hopefuls?
I get that impression, not trying to run him down he's still obviously a very good level boxer but he seemed to get most the attention from all the GB team when in my opinion theres plenty better than him. Can only think as you say its because he mixes with certain pro's.Boxing Prospect wrote:Was there a reason why some people were high on Fowler? Re: Olympic hopefuls?
Dont know how the fornicate fowler qualified for the olympics,it must of been a dream come to true to get there but an absolute knightmare of a first fight, crossing his legs, plodding around the ring, hitting at the back of the head, swinging and missing like a novice. I just dont see what his game plan was in this fight but who ever gave it to him shouldnt even be at the greatest spectacle in the world

Re: Olympic hopefuls?
Out of interest, want to name some of those WSB performances? When Matchroom sign him they'll be full of hype but in all honesty I see him being the next Ogogo, media friendly guy who goes no where quick. He's had tough fights but has he actually shown anything in them?samwbr wrote:Seen some great performances in the WSB from Fowler. Well see how he goes, I hope he does well.

He was there on merit, all the GB squad are. 2 years of graft.thechump wrote:Dont know how the eff fowler qualified for the olympics,it must of been a dream come to true to get there but an absolute knightmare of a first fight, crossing his legs, plodding around the ring, hitting at the back of the head, swinging and missing like a novice. Re: Olympic hopefuls?
The Hong Kong boy got booed in the Fencing. The Brazilian was ranked 33rd best out of 34 in the competition but won 8 of the last nine stabs. They don’t sound sporting at all. Still, diverts the attention from all the half-inching going on.Counter-puncher wrote:Well you'd expect them to boo the argues, who else have they booed?Old bones Ian wrote:The Brazilian fans are exactly sporting are they, booing at every opportunity if they don't like a country

Re: Olympic hopefuls?
Cordina is almost as bad as Fowler...How the hell has he managed to get to the Olympics? He qualify for the sprinting or something and got lost?

Bad afternoon for @JoeCordina_91 in a scrappy brawl with tough Uzbek. Cordina breezed first, judges disagreed, then it was tight for last 2.
