I don't understand how so many people had Takam winning that fight. It wasn't like Parker won by 10+ rounds, but definitely clear by 2-3 rounds. I always felt he was in complete control, and when Takam was finding any kind of momentum, he'd take his foot off the gas.

I mean the volume of people that think Takam won the fight makes me question my judgement, or maybe that's just people gunning for the underdog?
Two things to consider :

1/ Fights are hard to score. That's why even the qualified judges entrusted with scoring a fight rarely manage to agree on who won particular rounds, let alone who won the fight.

2/ When you are watching a fighter you really hope wins it is even harder to score a fight.
What do you think your doing... . .? Coming here with your sense and reason  :salut:

There is a argument for takam.. I went Parker by 2-3 I seem to remember .

I reckon I'll be in the minority by being more excited to see this bout than the Joshua-Molina mismatch.

I don't think it'll be a massive minority. Although I am looking forward to Joshua v Molina because I'm a Joshua fan and there's the 'Wilder comparison' element also.

However, as a contest, Parker and Ruiz will be a lot more interesting as a contest. That said, I personally think Parker will win a lot easier than people think.

The chances of Ruiz leaving New Zealand with a decision are not good. They don't fly you all the way over there to win. He will need to win clearly. He's not good enough.

Agree on both points. Especially the first one. Have you ever sat and read through how a fight is supposed to be scored? There's a good link HERE

The "clean punching" bit is obvious but the other three could be taken either way in a close fight.
I think it is worthwhile extracting that section from the article :

Three ringside judges score bouts based on four factors:

1/ Clean punching: “Clean” punches are punches that land on the face/side of the head and the front/side of the torso.

2/ Effective aggressiveness: A boxer demonstrates this trait when he consistently and successfully moves forward in a controlled manner.

3/ Ring generalship: The judges favor the fighter who controls the pace and style of the bout.

4/ Defense: Boxers that skillfully incorporate defensive maneuvers receive credit in this area.

Full House Expected for Parker vs Ruiz :

“There are less than 500 tickets remaining,” DUCO Events spokesman Craig Stanaway said in a recent update ahead of the heavyweight title fight.

Really impressive how much weight he lost

It is. But equally interesting will be how much it assists him during the bout. Some fighters who have lost a lot of weight also lost some punch resistance in the process.

Starting to wonder how much weight Ruiz has actually lost :

"Physically, he's very prepared," said Abel Sanchez on Sunday night.

"If you've seen some of the clips that they've been sending from over there, he was walking taller, he looks thinner, he might be only 255 by fight time. But he's so much more trim and solid."

Duco Events and Top Rank promotions have agreed to co-promote Joseph Parker following this weekend's WBO world title fight.

Top Rank's chief executive, Bob Arum, is in New Zealand for the Parker-Ruiz fight on Saturday and agreed to promote Parker throughout the USA and China while Duco, who have promoted Parker for the majority of his professional boxing career, look after the Australasian market.

Don't be fooled . Ruiz is ranked lower than Takam for a reason.

This will be an easier fight for Parker than Takam was.

Ruiz will be the one who is stepping up a class and he is going to quickly realise he is out of his depth and class.

There is a reason Parker is Ranked #5 while Ruiz is #21

Easy win for Parker

Abel Sanchez :

"I think we have two guys that are the future of the heavyweight division. I think we have two guys who are finally going to show us what heavyweights are actually supposed to fight like, not the wrestling that we have been getting for the last 10-12 years," Sanchez said in a not so subtle attack on the methods of the Klitschko brothers and Tyson Fury.

"We are going to have the kind of fight where they are going to hit each other, hurt each other. That's the way it should be. It's evenly matched."

Good job from arum. This is all he could do for Ruiz.

The only thing I see working in Ruiz favour is the Abel Sanchez factor. Clearly got him training properly, but how he steps up against an opponent such as Parker in completely different physical conditions is anyone's guess.

But I, like you, think that Parker is too big and too quick for Ruiz, and this should be a comfortable victory.

Don't sleep on Ruiz's speed - I think Ruiz and Parker have the fastest hands in the heavyweight division - it's hard to split them on speed.

I just can't see Ruiz giving Parker any trouble after the first three rounds. Parker will dominate, imho.

Looks like just two more fights before the main event, including the one that's on now.

Not a great fight. But a good contest between two very evenly matched guys who both came to win. I had it close and had my fingers crossed Parker would get the nod - and he did.

Yeah I was hopefully confident the judges would favor Parkers more cleaner and sharper punches .

Ruiz really slowed down a bit after 4 rounds and tried to steal rounds late quite often .

Things to note are how hard Ruiz got hit clean and didnt even
look like he was hurt. Would like to see Takam vs Ruiz!

The judge who scored a draw gave me a scare lol

Ruiz is a rock, and I can't see anyone stopping him any time soon. Parker soon realized that and tried to outwork him and at the same time respected Ruiz's power and hand speed.

Burger King sells almost 140,000 Whopper burgers at $2 each after Parker win

Burger King offered $2 Whopper burgers to celebrate Joseph Parker becoming New Zealand's first heavyweight boxing champion of the world, and sold around 137,000 Whopper burgers between 11am and 5pm on Sunday.

Burger King changed their Papatoetoe restaurant logo to 'Parker King' to promote Saturday night's fight and the $2 Whopper burger promotion.
