You keep mentioning what matters to proper boxing fans when it's the casual sports fan who make the fight huge. I don't think Danny would have got as much coverage in the papers if he had won a belt. Almost all sports fans will have now heard of Danny Williams which makes him a big draw

Yes, that is definetly Bubi's problem, he forget that the difference between a draw and a non-draw is that they get the attention of the casual sports fan.

Ricky Hatton is probably the most consistent draw in boxing right now, even Tyson didn't sell 16,000 tickets in kentucky. Hatton gets that every time he fights at home, why? Well, it's because the people of Manchester consider him one of their own, and he is the mascot for the Manchester City football fans. It's clever marketing, and it's very profitable.

Samil Sam has no profile anywherem except maybe his home town in Turkey, unfortunately, Turkey has no history of staging major professional boxing events, and there's no way any fighter in the etlite of the heavyweight division is interested in him. Especially as he has now lost his last two big fights.

Bubi, boxing is a business, and if promoters were reliant on hardcore boxing fans to make a buck, they would all be out of business.

jamesmcdonnell wrote:Great, he's big news in Turkey, when was the last time he fornicating well fought in Turkey then? Name a world title fight staged in Turkey. If he's such a bloody hero in turkey, then how come he fights out of Germany.

Amateur boxing doesn't mean a thing to the average sports fan, outside of america where they hype their olympic prospects to hell.

Face it, Sam is a virtually unknown fighter in world terms, and couldn't draw his own curtains. You think that anyone in the heavyweight division gives a toss about Sam, well they don't.

Christ JC Gomez kicked his butt, and he can't even get a decent fight.
Sam doesn´t fight in Turkey because professional boxing is forbidden. It´s the same in Sweden. Sam is anyway there very popular.

Don´t forget that Sam outboxed your new megahype in England. Williams has to prove more than a victory over old Tyson. Gomez would easily outbox Williams, too.

Right, so if boxing if forbidden in Turkey, what possible bearing does the fact that he is a national hero have on things. You have just proven that your own statement was pointless.

Not having a dig, but all you are focusing on is bragging rights. Face it, Heavyweight boxing in most of Europe is a joke, even the Klitchsko's went to America to raise their profile, Samil Sam is a nobody, and no matter what you think, there is no promoter in the world who would suggest to Danny that he face Samil Sam, when he has just kicked the shit out of Mike Tyson.

I don´t know why Sam is a national hero in Turkey. Fly to turkey and ask them.

The Klitschkos went to the USA because all top fighters feared to box them in Europe (except Byrd). A Klitschko fight brings in 20,000 people in the halls and millions of euros. you don´t know anything about boxing outside the UK. that´s your problem.

No Promoter on earth would fix a fight Sam-Williams. two reasons:
1. not enough money for Williams
2. Sam would outbox him the second time

by jamesmcdonnell
I didn't ask why he was a hero in Turkey, I asked you why you were wittering on about it if professional boxing is banned there, what exactly was your point. Somehow Samil Sam being 'big in turkey' is going to translate into a huge purse for someone fighting him?

You're in denial mate, just face it. Samil sam is a nobody, a nothing, and nobody needs him, Williams is internationally famous now whether you like it or not, whereas Sam is a guy going nowhere, I know you find that hard to handle, but that's how it is. I am not saying that Williams would definetly beat Sam in a rematch, but the fact is, he just battered the biggest name in heavyweight boxing into oblivion.

The reason the Klits went to America, is it's the best way to get recognised, and it's where the best competition is by far. The European boxing scene as a whole stinks, and the EBU belt is no longer what it was.

The reason no promoter would stage a return fight, is there's no money in it for anyone concerned, why bother when there are bigger fights out there?

Yes, the Klitchsko's are a draw, but Samil Sam isn't the Klitchsko's is he? He was a moderate draw before losing to Gomez, but he's not a player now.

Anyway, I'm tired of banging my head on a brick wall, you're obsessed with hyping up mediocre European fighters whilst knocking any British fighter who achieves anything, and it's a waste of time trying to have a reasonable discussion with you. Stick to wasting your time going on about your own domestic scene.

Fact is Williams will now be rated in the WBC top 10 after beating Tyson, whereas Samil San isnt in the top 20.

Williams can make probably 10 times more money fighting one of the champs or top 10 guys than a rematch with San, nobody in their right mind would expect him to do that.

Sorry, guys I never said that I´m a Sam-fan. The only thing is that Sam destroyed Williams once. Williams is now not the Superhero as you guys say. When took the Sam-fight place? Williams was a nobody till friday. now he is a guy who koed tyson, who was obviosly injured. that doesn´t make him world class. i never said that Sam is a top ten boxer. Sam is top ten in Europe like Williams is now. Sam had his chance vs. Gomez, but he missed it. let´s see where Williams is going.

Christ Bubi, you are so thick-skulled, of course Danny can get a title shot, shall I spell it out for you.

DANNY WILLIAMS JUST BEAT THE fornicate OUT OF MIKE TYSON LIVE ON AMERICAN TELEVISION AND HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WORLD WIDE WATCHED IT HAPPEN!!!

Christ, don't you get it, nobody gives a fiddler's fart about Sam, he's an also-ran European fighter, with a good amateur record, that's it. He lost his big chance when he got defeated by Gomez.

I think its a very marketable fight for any of the champions and will get plenty of attention as Williams beat the biggest name in the heavyweights. Even though Tyson is over the hill and not what he was he is still prob the most famous boxer the world over.

Who else is more marketable for a title shot other than Williams at the moment? What I mean by marketable is what is the biggest money fight for any of the champions.

sorry i never predicted that Sam gets a chance to fight for a world title, but he destroyed Williams a year or so ago.

Williams is a "one hit wonder" and will diappear in world wide boxing as fast as he appeared.

Well, he did something that Sam has never done, he beat Mike Tyson, and put himself into title contention. End of.

he might be marketable for a rematch or one fight vs. a "better one". but if he loses the next fight nobody would talk of him anymore.

Sam or every other 2nd class heavy would win vs. an injured Tyson.

Granted if he doesnt win his next fight he wont be in as strong a position, but as it stands he is way ahead of both San and Gomez in terms of public interest which translates into money.

I haven't read this entire thread - too much catching up for me after IT problems.

However, as a Harrison fan I always thought Danny was the most dangerousu opponent out there for Audley.

I also think Danny's performance has provided some much need context for Audley. Admittedly, Harrison is a novice in comparison to Danny's own eight year career.

But inevitably we have to compare them, particularly as Harrison declares himself to be a 12 round fighter these days.

In that context you have to say Audley has little to faze the best of Danny Williams, it reall served as a wake up call for me as an advocate of Harrison's.

HE REALLY NEEDS TO DO MORE.

Williams has been a loser, a nobody. it´s like this Rocky-Balboa-thing. but fortunately we are not in Hollywood. Next year same time we all will see that nothing has changed......

Harrison should fight vs a boxer the first time in his life. he fought human punching bags. it´s time to fight someone who punches.

But David, believe me, till Friday almost everybody (except me) here on British Boxrec was hyping Harrison.

Bubi.

And I still think Harrison has got something but the ferociousness and action in the four rounds we saw Friday woke me from my Harrison coma.

He has to be more effective. He just doesn't throw enough shots and his jab is little more than a radar.

I just never see Harrison pulling a world-class performance from his obviously talented frame.

I'm beginning to question whether he has the motivation or drive to delier that kind of intensity.

Look Bubi why dont you either bugger off back to the current scene mate or be a bit more constructive instead of just slating off English fighters your starting to sound like that penis Post Mortem.
Why would everyone start talking bout Harrison when Wiliams has just pulled off that upset?
Audley will make a charge as well he is at a different stage of his career. As for the hyping you shoudl take your own advice Mr I wanna suck off Luan Krasniq.
Dont get me wrong I like you Bubi but you have got under my skin on this one. Give the guy their dues when thewy performed well please. Its only fair, I havent slated you fave fighter constantly have I . But all you seem to be coming out with is bitter comments cos Williams got the break, the opportunity and grasped it with both hands.

J, you know that I don´t have anything against british fighters. I just don´t like how they are overhyped here, especially Harrison and now Williams. that´s all.

I don´t overhype Krasniqi. He is one of the best in Europe and has a chance vs. Brewster or Byrd, maybe. But some people here discuss a win from Williams over V.Klitschko or Toney, what is irrealistic, you know. Maybe noone of you guys have seen the brilliant performance on Saturday, but anyway, in one year we´ll see how Williams is then.
