You only vacate if you're challenging for a world title.
isn't it if you win the title at another weight, Brook for example still has his welter title
I'm trying to remember.

Oh hang on, I think I'm thinking of the European belt, you have to relinquish it to fight for a world title, or certainly used to have to.

I think if you win a title at a higher weight, you have to relinquish one of the titles, I think you can choose to vacate and move back down to your former weight, or relinquish it and defend your new belt.

Eddie Hearn a few years ago...

"The Cleverly vs Bellew match was not a SBO success, when looking at the PPV model we will need to avoid try a different approach".

A fake rivarly, non world title bout about two world level opponent, one of these completely unproven at the new weight.

Its EXACTLY the same model and I see it will be on SBO.

Is this at full unrestricted heavyweight?

I thought it would have been a catch weight 10 or 15lbs above the 200 limit.

If this is at full heavyweight, Bellew is going to get slaughtered

He doesn't really deserve a hats off to be fair. He's taken this because he's gonna get a huge payday. If he takes a 5 minute nap, it's not the end of the world to him as he'll have millions in the bank.

Frank and BT sports are going to be kicking themselves over this missed opportunity to sign Haye. They need someone like that to attract new subscribers. Regarding the fight itself; Can't imagine Bellew even lardier than he's been coming into the ring at cruserweight.

He's gonna have bigger tits than Dolly Parton.

I get it, but the potential for him to get put to sleep is large. He's the guy taking the risk here so he does deserve respect regardless of whether you actually like him.

It appears so judging by Haye's comments.

It could be a case of be careful what you wish for, there's always a risk in boxing, but facing a vaunted heavyweight puncher who will probably outweigh you by 30 lbs on fight night, in a weight class you've never campaigned at, does run the risk of getting badly hurt. As we all know in boxing, it only takes 1 punch to have permanent life changing injury.

It would be a bigger risk if he got chinned by Briedis for peanuts to be fair.

Could it be vetoed if the weight difference is too much ? Might sound fun with all the insults and WWE pull aparts but should anything happen to Bellew then there will be huge ramifications to the sport.

It's delving too much into WWE for me with this one.

Anyone know when we'll get confirmation as to whether Bellew gets to keep his WBC title? It would be awesome if Huck-Briedis came out of this...

We shall see, but how much of it will be useful weight, depends what kind of condition Bellew comes in. How much muscle will he gain?

No idea Jim.

The only way I see a Bellew win is if he is still relatively unscathed by the halfway point. That's when the inactivity of Haye will start to show.

jamesmcdonnell wrote:You really think so? Why?

I think the result is likely to make a mockery of that statement.

I'll be lumping money on a 1st or 2nd round KO. Bellew will be knocked cold by the first flush shot that lands.
For a long time I've rated Haye lower than most and Bellew higher than most.

Like I've said recently: "I still think that there is a good chance that Haye is a shadow of his former self. The only world level win that he's had in the last 6.5 years is against Chisora and how highly does anyone on here rate Chisora?".

Bellew is the WBC cruiserweight champion and isn't that much smaller than Haye. Haye was never a phenomenal heavyweight and he's not done anything decent in years.

I don't think that Haye is the monster that most people seem to think he is. Haye's fast and powerful, but there's a good chance that Bellew can stand up to it for longer than people think.

If Bellew can land a few times then old, inactive Haye could be in trouble, especially after the first few rounds.

A fight for the masses and not the purists. One guy hasn't fought anyone relevant in 5 years and another has been spanked when at serious world level by a far superior fighter.
