Here's the point though. It won't happen to me, and it won't happen to the vast majority of people, who don't go around saying things which will obviously offend massive numbers of people. Fury isn't killing anyone, but in his list so far he's said gay people should be shot, women are no good for anything except being in the kitchen or bedroom, Jews control the world, and people who have abortions are comparable to people who abuse children.

I'm also completely oblivious to what your point is. You can't seriously be suggesting that saying gay people should be shot or women aren't good for anything except cleaning, cooking and shagging aren't offensive on some level. And if they are, people have the right to judge the person saying it. It's my 'right' to say black people are subhuman, that blacks should all be slaves, that black people shouldn't be allowed to marry white people and if they do they should be shot. And it's everyone elses right to say I'm a racist imbecile.

And as has been mentioned, there are some shocking double standards here from Fury. It's really not hard to just treat people equally and not act the twat. He does with gay people, but certainly doesn't seem to like it when Gypsies are portrayed as uneducated criminal-minded simpletons.

Typo, should say "that" although I am sure you worked it out yourself.

Interesting that you should post a comment but not address the topic actually being discussed.

Tyson (and it appears many if his supporters) are all for freedom if speach when it comes to them saying whatever they want to, however if somebody says something that they don't like then suddenly the "ism's" start getting thrown about.

You know all this, we both know I am wasting my time typing this but I am a bit bored today :salut:

I did, it was sarcasm. Tyson grew up in a deeply religious familyand stands by the way of the bible. It's his beliefs.

Tyson seems a nice bloke imo. Always has. His biggest problem is probably the way he was raised, or more accurately, his old man. Imagine having that crank in your ear everyday until you are old enough to get away from him? Would scramble anyone's head

There is a very interesting wider debate to be had about the compatibility of modern Western liberal societal values with the many homophobic and sexist aspects contained within the infrastructure of some of the major religions.

But I sense we won't be able to resolve it on the B&I forum.

Definitely. You're right about him seeming like a nice enough guy at times. I think he comes out with a lot of the gay stuff because that's what he's expected to say. I mean, boxers call each other chinny all the time, slag off people with no power. I remember Haye yawning his way through a Ruiz press conference slagging him off for being boring. With Fury his go-to insult (Haye, Bellew, Price) just seems to be to call them gay.

The difference is that being chinny doesn't mean anything other than the guy has a,shit chin.

Chucking out the gay card suggests that in Tyson's world gays are inferior men to him and weak etc etc blah blah blah.

My view on Tyson is that if you don't want to be judged as a tosser, don't come across as a tosser and compare abortion with peados, don't go on rants about Zionism and the Jews and don't say gays should be shot.

People tend to hold those sort of views in a bad light especially from someone claiming to be a christian.

As with many religious types (of whatever religion) he is very selective in what he believes in.

It can often look as though basically he does and says whatever he wants but then tries to justify it with some selective passage from the bible.

Of course I'm not.

What I am saying, though, is that in a free society you have to have the right to opinion and that opinion should not be criminally investigated (like Fury was) nor should a person be penalized for their opinions (like losing their job, losing opprotunities, etc) just because some happen to be offended. You cannot have a free society if you limit any kind of speech and train of thought. Therefore, even the most racist and sexist of people--- should (also) be given immunity to say whatever it is they wish to say. ONLY WHEN it becomes more than words, is there really a crime. Period. UNLESS (as there is exceptions to every rule) the words said are direct threats of violence to an individual, community, or state. Then it's the time to take action. However, nothing Fury ever said---- no matter how outlandish---- has ever warranted the police, and yet they came knocking on his door. It's utter tripe.

If Tyson Fury worked with the public and he made open comments comparing homosexuals to paedophiles and saying women should be on their back or in the kitchen he'd definitely be at least brought before a tribunal in the UK. I'm sure it's because we're a pinko commie Muslim loving dystopian police state.

In America, I could go to work at the garage (I assume Henry works somewhere like this) and chat all day about how I think rednecks probably enjoy being bummed but are too scared to admit it, and nobody would be able to touch my job!

Did I ever tell you my theory about how gay people only dress as Cowboys because being a cowboy is literally the gayest thing possible? Even more so than being a male nurse or a hairdresser?

That should all be fine then. I'll just leave this here.

So you're advocating a policy of being able to say absolutely anything you want, to anyone, and as long as you don't directly incite violence. Which would mean, if I worked with, say, a black guy, I could repeatedly refer to him using the worst racist abuse I could think of and as long as I don't hit him or advocate him being hit I'm untouchable?

This is an odd way to deal with a problem, which is surely more easily solved by simply not being a complete arsehole. And the thing is, I doubt Fury himself would agree with it. If his children were being called thieving pikey c*nts every day of their lives I'm sure he'd want more done about it than the teachers just saying 'well, they're not hitting anyone so it's free speech.'

You have presumably heard of the shouting fire in a theatre analogy? Total freedom of speech can't realistically happen.

This one keeps on coming up so I did a quick google, as I don't really recall him saying it.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2012/ ... avid-price

He says he gave his phone to his dinlo cousins to tweet for him and they posted it. He follows it with a fairly heartfelt sounding plea for tolerance. I personally believe him on that one. The rest of the stuff he's accused of is out there and easy enough to find on youtube. Seen it all.

Here's a little comparison that some of you will know about: Phil Anselmo from Pantera has long been accused of white supremacist beliefs etc and was not long ago filmed literally sieg hieling and shouting "WHITE POWER!" at the end of a gig. His grumpy explanation was that everybody was an idiot knee jerk reactionist and that he was wasn't racist at all: he was merely trolling some fans in the crowd with his "dark sense of humour" which people just "didn't understand."

I'd quite like to meet Phil Anselmo, in the same way I'd quite like to meet Tyson Fury, but if you don't want people to think you're a dick try not to be such of a dick.

If one says anything, to anyone, at any given time (which is their right to do so) they must then accept the concept that they, too, in return will be receiving the same treatment: "Do unto others as you would like done to yourself", comes to mind.
