Considering Mercer didn't hit canvas until he fought Wladimir Klitschko... Goes to show he would have soaked up anything Tyson could have thrown at him... Tyson at this time was just a headhunter, and Mercer was giving Lennox Lewis absolute misery in the ring. I am going with Mercer to weather the storm and come out on top with a late stoppage.

Mercer is everything wrong for Tyson. Bigger; stronger (overall); granite chin; decent boxing skills. He would've worn Tyson out over 7 - 8 rounds.

He had to have power and skill to knock out Mike, though. Mike's chin was a good one. You gotta hit him constantly. Would Mercer hit him constantly and often?

I don't know...ask Tommy Morrison.

Mercer was the kind of guy who couldn't be taken lightly, but you sure didn't want to burn yourself out against him. He annihilated Tommy Morrison, and weathered the storm against Francisco Damiani to knock him out, and you can argue he was robbed against Lennox Lewis. Absolutely he could against Tyson, especially the late 90s version who was mostly just showmanship and theatrics.

He was a scary opponent for anyone. (not the old late fighting version).

I like Mercer as well, very underrated. I actually had the Lewis fight a draw myself. Very small ring, which favored Mercer a bit. Lewis stood toe to toe with him, and fought Mercer's fight. For me this fight is a 50/50, while Mercer does have a strong chin. He will probably fight Tyson's fight and attempt to slug it out with him. Holyfield who has a strong chin himself, chose to clinch on the inside before Tyson can unload his hook. While you can argue Mercer had a better chin, you can't argue with the fact Tyson had better one punch knockout power. Mercer was knocked out later in his career by monster punching Shannon Briggs, though the punch was a bit behind the head.

I see Tyson either knocking him out around the 5th or 6th round, if it goes past 8. I see Mercer stopping him in the late rounds.

Ray mercer wasn't remotely in Tyson's class . Peak mike Kos him . 96 Tyson mercer I suspect would be a Tyson points win but a mercer win wouldn't be a surprise . Tyson was badly faded by then.

Tyson wasn't KOing everybody and he wasn't able to KO the guys, whose chin seemed worse in comparison to Mercer's one. Mercer was very tough and could take terrible punishment.

It’s tough to get away from Mercer’s record in ‘93. He went 1-1 against Jesse Ferguson. If that version of Mercer shows up, even a non-peak Tyson takes the win.
