Right now, he's not thinking about the bank balance. His pride is shot to bits. Losing to Bellew after all the acrimony and knowing how easily he could beat him fully fit, must really hurt.
It's quite possible he also needs the money but he clearly wasn't fighting only for the money on Saturday night, otherwise he'd have ducked out after his achilles went in round 6. Why fight on with a severe injury if you're only there for the money?
So he can get a rematch easier and nobody can say he bottled it like they have in the past.
Hayes world....caving in?

Would he not get a rematch if he got pulled out in the 6/7th? Considering he was ahead in the fight and he picked up a severe and legit injury to lose the fight?bigjack wrote:youngrell wrote:Yup, I'm of similar thinking to you.Dixonian wrote:Everybody here seems to be saying Haye's only desperate for the payday now. Fighting on was more likely because he wanted to still try and win, and avoid having to rematch Bellew at all. I suspect AJ was the goal here, not a Bellew rematch.
Re: Hayes world....caving in?
I disagree, Bellew won the lottery the other night due to a Haye injury and Haye totally underestimating Bellew and potentially only having trained for a 3 round fight.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yes, I suspect you're right in that.sweetscience wrote:im only guessing like we all are

banked £3m after tax etc on this one... £2m for next one... sail off into the sunset
his body is clearly ruined.... his timing was WAY off... probably got himself match fit, no real boxing training
he has got one fight left which is sellable, it will be Bellew again, and I actually think same will happen, maybe Bellew points

Oh I was agreeing with the rest, not the Bellew win, though it's quite possible Haye will be carrying an injury again.rhino222 wrote:I disagree, Bellew won the lottery the other night due to a Haye injury and Haye totally underestimating Bellew and potentially only having trained for a 3 round fight.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yes, I suspect you're right in that.sweetscience wrote:im only guessing like we all are

I wonder how many others have followed the alleged Fowler model...from sports/ football etc. I think if you are modest and not greedy then your money is safe as - well....houses. It doesn’t sound like rocket science either...lillywhite14 wrote:It is a strange one. There's plenty of low risk investments out there that he could have managed himself.Tuan_Jim wrote:Did Haye invest his money poorly? If so, I wonder why he or indeed any boxer making millions would do such a thing. Given that every single millionaire boxer in history has ended up broke through bad investments, I might be inclined to avoid their fate and simply pay my tax and keep my millions in the bank. Ah, but inflation! That 5 mil won't be 5 mil in 5 years! You need to invest it somewhere - so that it makes money and is still the equivalent of 5 mil in 5 years' time!
What sort of lavish lifestyle must you be living when you have to worry about millions of pounds sitting unmolested in the bank still not being enough money to see you out?
Is this a naive post? I brace myself for the wrath of all the Forbes reading millionaire-works-in-progress that populate online boxing forums.
Just buy himself a fairly large amount of buy to let properties and he can just sit back and watch his money grow at a decent rate. Look at what Robbie Fowler did with his money from football, he owns hundreds of houses and makes a damn fine living from them.
I suspect Haye sought out investments that suited, in his mind at least, his lifestyle. The need for fame etc
I can think of two high profile people who put all their dosh into property and lost it. Holyfield built a 52 bathroom temple to himself (very f*cking humble that)...then got done over by smooth talking suits on the old have now - pay later model....
Some other fool was allegedly a singer in an Irish all boy group, who dumped millions in houses - pure greed - talking about 20 million here - must have borrowed money because the value of the property fell and wiped him out overnight...
Also - from the other side - there is a reported lack of social housing in the UK. There are smart or extortionate landlords, ....or somewhere in the middle....I know as a private landlord you can set the rent at whatever rate you want....but what if you’re trying to maximise your rental income - and buying up more? Are you then part of the problem?
