Perhaps I am bias cos I used to get a lot of DVDs from the states at the time, so saw quite a bit of Elvin Ayalia and he was quite well hyped and a decent level operator. .... and actually got a world title shot after fighting Banks..... Banks deserved both fights for me.

Banks could hardly win around against Eromosele Albert, was beaten handily by Manfredo right before facing Smith, scraped by a clubfighter right after that, and was brutally KO'd when he faced a top 10/15 opponent in Edison Miranda.

The wins over Ayala were decent, but at world level I don't think Banks was even a fringe-contender at any point in his career, and he was coming off a loss when Smith squeaked past him. He was an okayish, ESPN type of fighter in my opinion, and may've challenged for an NABF or USBA title in the days when those belts still meant something to Americans who were coming up or trying to earn another chance at a higher level.

At the time of their fight Banks would have been rated around 50th on Boxrec.

So despite not having a decent win for almost 4 years and not fighting at super middleweight for 2.5 years.

Paul Smigga Smith ( he's world level btw) is now ranked at no 5 in the WBAs latest rankings. Ahead of Arthur Abraham who beat Paul Smith twice.

They didn't even put him in at 15 FFS.

Searching Twitter it seems the Zeuge fight could be on June 17 and announced imminently.

One stumbling block is Zeuge has a mandatory rematch with ekpo. Then they have to fight the winner of groves Chudinov to consolidate the belts.

Smith v Zeueg is an embarrassment to boxing but is anyone surprised.

Smith a couple of places above AA who beat him twice

The WBA must just sit about their offices and smoke copious amounts of crack! Some of they rankings for the other weights are proper embarrassing. Corrupt bastards.

Well that's why the need so much money. They're crack addicts! Although to give them credit, they only have 3 recognised world cruiserweight champions!

About time Paul got another big opportunity. If a win, four years ago, over Tony Dodson, isn't enough to grant a man at least four massive fights on the world stage, I don't know what is.

Correct - anybody who disagrees is just a hater who has never boxed

I hope Zeuge has been eating PED's like smarties and punches like Bob Foster

Nightmare scenario is a close enough fight for them to claim robbery and rematch

Seriously? Why don't the other orgs just call the WBA out and refuse to recognise them any more? The oldest of them all has gone totally senile ffs, if the WBA was a dog it'd have to be put down :brick:

I really wanted Paul Smith to fight Adonis Stevenson for his next deserved world title fight.

It is only reasonable as Paul has been fighting at light heavyweight recently and fits the bill for a Stevenson opponent.

That would fit the bill perfectly for a lot of us too, I imagine, watching Stevenson knock Smiths head into row 6 like Mortal Kombat
