Because the number of boxers who would stand a chance of beating (an alleged performance enhanced Povetkin) could be counted on the fingers of one hand. That makes him impossible (for me) to ignore.
+1, I'm not a fan of him either, but fact we all know that this guy would easely beat Wilder and Stiverne, but simply got denied to fight because of the Americans their "mistakes", proves that this guy should never be ignored.
Povetkin is the real WBC champion.

:shame: not until he gets by PEDvetkin on July 1.

With respect Adsfjki (wow, I'm getting so I can type your name without stopping several times to ensure I spell it correctly) we don't know that at all. Sure we can speculate but how is it some people are so damn certain about everything and remain just the same even when experience repeatedly shows them that they sometimes get it hopelessly wrong just like the rest of us?

Povetkin v Wilder was a fascinating match-up and I haven't a clue who would have prevailed. It was a massive disappointment to me that the fight didn't take place and remains a huge regret even now, I'm not even sure who was to blame either.

Simple; PEDvetkin elbowed Povetkin out of the way, like a viscious roller derby queen.

You spelled my name wrong, also, if you type it you'll probably realise how I came up with this name. Just in case type it 10 times in a row.
In the heavyweight division I only made one big mistake and that was during the Klitschko Fury fight. I even said a good cruiserweight has a fair chance against Daffy Duck months before such a fight was actually happening.

So I did asdfjki but I'm getting closer all the time. Sorry about that but it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue :D

So for those of us who are a little hard of thinking, how did you come up with it?

Any idea where my user-name comes from bcoz it's a long time since I could genuinely be described as any kind of slim?

You write it wrong again...
Maybe you should go to google and type it there, then you might realise.

Also google what the Dutch word "slim" means in English. You got a remarkebly funny name.

You like making me work don't you? I found it's same in Dutch and English and can refer to HIV/Aids, alternatively can mean smart, sly, canny, knowing.

So you're presumably Dutch. Not familiar with your querty-like user name, I had placed you much further east and if I'd had to guess would have gone for Suomi. Now you can do some research ... if you can be arsed.

What should I do research on? I didn't know about any aids/HIV connection though :s

Well I did as you asked and researched your user name and what slim meant in Dutch. I was waiting for you to answer my question about my user-name.

Incidently "The Slim disease" according to Google, is a Dutch term for HIV/AIDS because of the effect those conditions have on the afflicted.

Oh in English? Yea, could be, the Dutch word slim means smart/intelligent.

Candy is snoep en slim means dun, but I don't need a translator or investigation for that.

I think I do - WTF is "Dun" ?

Earnie Shaver - better known incorrectly as Earnie Shavers was a ferocious punching heavyweight of the 70s. Ali said nobody ever hit him harder.

In reply to the question "Was Earnie the hardest hitting heavy in the world?" someone (Gil Clancy I think) replied that he wasn't even the hardest hitting heavy in his own gym, that was a guy called "Jeff Merritt".

I followed his progress from fight reports. Even today there is hardly any footage of him. He went by the nickname "Candyslim". He had a suspect chin but that guy could really hit. It sounds ridiculous to describe him as a favourite of mine when I never watched him fight, but he really captured my imagination as a young fan of boxing in general and heavyweights in particular.

Well..... slim means smart (and nothing else) in Dutch and I've never ever heard of the term 'the slim disease' or any Dutch equivalent. :TU:

Dun is thin, skinny, slim, the opposite of fat, or the opposite of dik.
Dutch people usually don't need a translator for that lol.

I didn't know that but then I'm not Dutch. (Nor am I dun but I've been called dik a few times. :D )

Since I'm posting with a couple of Dutch guys I was going to ask does Tyrone Spong have much of a following among Dutch boxing and MMA fans?

Also I have good memories of the old Dutch Heavyweight/ Light-Heavyweight Rudi Lubbers and I was surprised that I didn't see his name among the all-time Dutch p4p boxers on BoxRec. Aside from the fact I need new glasses, any idea why that should be? I know he ended up losing quite a few but he gave Bugner and Ali a decent argument on his way up.

If you are not sure who to blame, either you are new to boxing or stupid.

Don't straddle the fence, or play dumb. 90% of the people on this board either play dumb, or are to chicken shitt to do something other than straddle the fence. By playing it safe, you are free to criticize others from either side....and pretend they are the smart ones.

Were you born a belligerent arsehole or did you go to classes?. There are plenty of long time fight fans on here who believe Wilder was up for the fight but Povetkin caused the cancellation by his inability to pass a drugs test. Others would have it, that it was a stitch-up designed to ensure the WBC belt stays in the US and Wilder was never going to face Povetkin as a spanner was aways going to be thrown in the works whether Povetkin was clean, dirty or anywhere in between.

I've not really followed it because I'm interested in boxing rather than chemistry, but it seems to me even those who were interested haven't a clue either. Of course it doesn't stop the dimmer ones being absolutely certain theirs in the only opinion that counts, whichever side of the argument they are on.

Usually they leave you in no doubt what they think, but you didn't even say. So come on then - give us the benefit of your mighty intellect.
