The true fight was Kovalev vs Ward, the judges, the referee, NV commission

Welcome to the American boxing swamp. Boxing died when haymon and mayweather hijacked the sport and turned it into WWE fraud.

Well you just said in your post "Neither fighter will want it"

I was just informing you that Kovalev has said he wants a third match up.
I heard what he said. I also heard how he said it. He doesn't want a rematch. In fact he probably won't even do much of anything in the sport for the rest of this year.

Who's at fault?

It's 50/50. It's partly on Weeks, and partly on Kovalev. Kovalev should've known by then with the reaction Weeks had had with the previous low blow that he wasn't going to get any help. So the next time Ward low blowed him he should've low blowed him back. In a fight you have to look at it as if it's just YOU and YOUR opponent. The referee ain't even there. If the guy is hitting you in the balls, hit him back in the balls.

Kovalev kept looking for help, and what he got was a TKO loss. Protect YOURSELF at all times, don't look to the referee to protect you.

People have been moaning about corruption in boxing since God was a lad, it's no different now.

In your case though, you're probably pissed cos women are doing it now and are quite good at it.

That fight could've went 12 last night and most of us would've wanted to see it again. The controversy of the last two fights has sickened folk. I'm the same as yourself. I don't want to see it again.

I want to see it again, except not in mob run Las Vegas again, with its in-house refs and judges and tv shills - but in Russia - and I want to see Kovalev focusing all his punches strictly below the dirty little rat's belt, and I want a Russian ref who is like the 3 monkeys and doesn't see or hear or say anything but is just waiting to dive in and stop the fight, just like a Las Vegas referee!

This sport is a joke, the blatant biases and corruption is not even hidden anymore.

Kovalev Ward 1 had 75%+ of people saying Kovalev was robbed

Kovalev Ward 2 had 75%+ of people saying the blows were illegal.

The corruption is in plain sight and not even hidden anymore.

Weeks' decision to stop the fight is one of the worst stoppages I've ever seen in 20+ years of watching boxing. If Weeks had legitimately thought they were body blows the correct course of action would have been to give a 10 count. If Weeks had seen the low blows, surely a point deduction to Ward was in order.

Plus earlier on the card a guy gets KO'd after the bell.

Two thumbs down to this joke sport. No wonder no one watches boxing anymore. Belongs in the recycling bin to be honest. This is crap.

No...there are no standing counts in Boxing. Kovalev never went down to the canvas so Weeks would've had no reason to give him a count.

I'm curious, did Kovalev fight a totally clean fight?
You can't be totally clean against a dirty opponent of the same level. I wish Kovalev threw a low blow every time Ward did that, but he is from a different school of boxing.
Let's not forget that even some of the greats were often accused of using dirty tactics (Hagler's use of his head, Ali for holding, Tyson, you name it etc etc). If the referee ignores this then the fighter (or his corner) must draw his attention whilst never forgetting the golden rule to protect themselves at ALL times. I can still remember when Jim Watt blatantly butted Sean O Grady in a fight he was losing. When O Grady complained to the ref Watt hit him again. As much as I like Jim Watt, a great pro, he cheated in that fight. I would probably have done the same in his shoes, I know pain can have a strange effect upon my ethics and values.

For me the single greatest moment in Muhammad Ali's career was when he watched George Foreman going down and pulled back from hitting him again.

I guess the only other option left would be to retaliate in kind so then the referee will have to act or allow a vicious street fight.

There are all kinds of illegal tactics used in boxing. From head butts, rabbit punches (hitting back of head -
greatly increasing risk of brain injury), hitting groin area, hitting with elbow, hitting and holding, kidney punch etc.
The full, quite lengthy list can be found here: http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Rules_of_Boxing

I have not seen the Lomachenko - Salido fight, but apparently that was far worse. The problem with this fight is that Andre Ward has had a cloud over him regarding dodgy tactics for some time yet no referee seems willing to take action.

Nah. They won't have a 3rd fight. I doubt anybody ever talks about a 3rd fight again here soon. No point

Really? I think there might be. We'll see.
No way, they're financially disastrous for everyone involved but ward. Nobody cared about this one. They're done.

I didn't buy either one, so I didn't care much. But I wouldn't mind a trilogy or Kovalev-Stevenson if the later can find his balls.

It would be like Stevenson to fight a guy coming off 2 losses. He supposedly tweeted he wants Ward or something according to somebody.

I get the feeling alot people did not watch this fight in its entirety but are griping off a highlight of one moment. Ward was dominating the entire 8th round before the stoppage and Kovalev was in serious trouble.

I don't see either of those fights ever happening. I bought them both, definite buyers remorse. Especially last night, that was all time bad.

Yeh, this reaction is a bit over the top,
but it does reflect the current ignorance sweeping the US and UK right now.

I guess this is that spoiled 90's generation coming to dispute boxing decisions.
So if something doesn't go their way, we get these types of silly reactions.

99% of the calls make by referees are correct. The current petty sports fans have over-emphasized the %1.

When people say they are done with this sport because of last night's early stoppage (and I think it was an early stoppage), it reminds me of when Howard Cosell said, "I've had had enough of this sport," while announcing Holmes vs Cobb.

Cosell lived through the mob control of the 1950s. Watched and announced Ali's torture beatings over Patterson and Terrell. But Holmes' shutout performance over Tex Cobb was just too much for him.

You guys are the same. Bad decisions and early stoppages have been an unfortunate constant. You guys just wanted Kovalev to win and Cosell was getting old and bored of Larry Holmes. He missed Ali. His reason and your reason is disingenuous.

One of Tex Cobb's great lines and he had a few, was when told that Cosell was so outraged the ref would not stop his fight with Holmes and declared himself done with boxing, Cobb said he do it again if it will get Cosell off of Monday Night football.
