Unfortunately it was everything that's gone wrong with boxing. A made up title where one of the fighters was deemed a youth at 29. On top of that he was a cruiserweight who apparently has been a career light heavyweight. The pundits were defending the fight but it had all the ingredients for a disaster. I'm just glad the opponent came out safe and got his payday.

Difficult to judge Dubois on that performance. Thought he was a bit messy but clearly has power. Difficult to gauge against a guy 2 stones lighter though.

This !

Fortunately DDD only a baby and has time to learn, his shot selection needs some work I think. Good work to the body but tbe guy was desperate to avoid that right hand again and was ducking so low , Daniel should have chucked a few upper cuts in and that would have sorted him out :)

Exactly this, and instead of putting Nathan Gorman, Naylor Ball, or just in case Fabio Wardley in front of him they showed up a 29 year old light something weight from the other side of the world in front of him, with 0 heavyweight fights on his name at all... It was ridiculous, they could put up a fat clown against an old grandma just as well.
And I'm a fan of Daniel Dubois, but I can't give him any credits for this.

I appreciate that but is it so hard to find a heavyweight anywhere in the world that would fight him instead of shipping in a career light heavyweight from Uruguay? I think not.

Remember he wasn't the original opponent.

Then still, do you think if we randomly phone any of these three guys to fight for a world title tomorrow that they wouldn't show up? I'd be surprised if they didn't show up.

So there was only one heavyweight in the entire world who was deemed suitable to fight him? Even if we accept that there wasn't a single cruiserweight? they only had had one ight heavyweight from Uruguay to choose from? Sorry, I'm not buying it.

I'm pretty sure world class fighters don't fight given one day notice with so much on the line. Do you really think its smart business to bring in a fighter who you can promote to fight for two months would make sense to make that fight in 3 days prior to the fight. Come on it makes no business sense.

We also must understand this was a showcase fight and set up as such no matter who the opponent would be it wasn't set up to be a challenge so they go for the cheap easy option.

If you think it's OK to put a heavyweight in with a 29 year old light heavyweight to be cannon fodder for a made up world youth title then we're not going to agree.

A few guys of the ilk of Paul Butlin wouldn't be a bad choice of opponent for him for his next fight or two in my opinion.

I just saying every fight isn't set up to be a competive fight these fight are part off the business every prospect has had these type of fights.

I've got no problem with a prospect being built up slowly. It's a natural process especially for a 19 year old. My issue is making up a world title and pitting him against an opponent who doesn't qualify on 2 counts, his age and a natural fighting weight which is about 2.5 stones less.

Its a bogus youth title not a real world title just a chance to get a top 15 ranking that belt would have been on the line no matter the opponent. He was a replacement opponent could they have gotten a better opponent of course. There goal wasn't to do that and if you understand the business aspect then this fight did exactly what is suppose a showcase for Dubose nothing more.

Why do you care about a beyond secondary title?

I understand the strategy I just don't agree with it. The fact you call it bogus suggests you don't agree with it either. You are just happier to accept it.

I care about the respectability of the sport and the safety of fighters but I'm clearly in the minority

It's part of the game. Anthony Yarde had the same type of fight a built up record guy with no shot of winning and no more competitive and that wasn't a late replacement. No difference in terms of competition the weight made no difference that guy had no shot just like Yarde opponent.

I'm pretty sure there teams think they will be and will not take short notice fights without time to prepare for good opponents.

He was at least the same weight division as Yarde though, correct?

Surely there must have been a heavyweight available somewhere nearer than Uruguay who would have put up a better fight than that ? Could have used the expenses to fly him over to add to the wages for someone nearer home
