McDermott and Sexton were his best wins in 2012. he then beat a shot Audley and a shot Skelton, then his career collapsed.

He could have some fun ding dongs I agree with guys like the ones you mentioned mate. Probably 50/50 fights most of those.

He may be shot, but I'm not convinced that he's declined that much. I think the flaws he's shown were always there and simply weren't exposed or capitalized on due to quality of opposition. I don't really see much regression in his abilities, which is why I think it would be interesting to see him at domestic level again; a loss to someone like Cornish or Thomas, who I don't consider any better than the guys he ran over prior to losing, would more strongly suggest that he's shot.

When Price was not shot? :-P

I think he walks through Cornish, but looses to Allen.

I wonder what shape is he now. Did he come down to previous slim self?

Thomas for the Commonwealth would be a good fight for him IMO...

Dont you think the pressure of a title of any sort would worry Price? Thats my issue with David price I think anything of worth and his mind goes all to pot, and if he cannot take his opponent out early the fight changes wind direction. I think any boxer who can take Price 2 or 3 rounds has a bloody good chance of beating him.

I think Price has more chance in low key fights. I would say go to another country and fight some low key fights thats not televised, saying that hes done it and to be fair did win 4 of the 5 fights. Its only when he boxed for something that he got stopped.

It might be a good idea to go to America similar to what Gary Mason did after his loss to Lennox Lewis and just fight on some small bills but learn something American. Have a couple of years over there and maybe 5 untelevised low key, low media fights and see how it goes.

Fighting over here on tv is not helping

He's already been a champ at that level, and do we know he wasn't full of nerves when he was winning?

In 1999 I hit a lorry head on, it was nasty. Ive never forgot that and when I approach the same part of road even now I remember it clearly and take my foot of the gas. I dare say David price has never forgot the night of 23rd Feb 2013.

I think he's just been unlucky to fight guys who use steroids. Without that he would still be unbeaten and on a straight road to the World Title.

He'd have an easier time with Allen.
How?

Price has only one weapon, power. Power alone wont work against Allen, because he is very tough. Lot tougher then Cornish. Cornish will fold against Prices power, just like against Joshua.

He,d knock allen and cornish out. People overestimating how bad price actually is. Hes no world beater...but hes better than the two of them.

Price came unstuck against thompson....his stamina etc gave way. So at the time they tried to get him boxing. Taking his time etc as opposed to going in and knocking guys out. Pretty much the sensible move for most fighters in that predicament but bearing in mind we,ve now seen the full extent of price,s flaws. Its time to go back to route 1. Get in their and knock these guys out. He beats himself in these fights.

Get him training explosively, sprint work. Work on disguising that big right hand better....setting traps. Become a fighter not a boxer. He cant jab to save his life at this stage that wont change. Dont think hes got the composure to go in and box. Probably can in sparring but it looks like it it gets too much for him in their on fight night. You might need composure to being a boxer...but a fighter you dont really need it. Get in there and rough guys up. Hes something like 6 foot 8 and 250 pounds. Just lean on them. Clinch on top of them. Then bang that right hand in.

Never gonna be a world beater...but can get him on a run. And actually make him a bit of a dangerous underdog against the better guys. Instead of pretty much everyone being a dangerous underdog to him atm. The longer hes in that ring the more chance his obvious flaws are exposed.

He starts knocking guys out. Looking more explosive. People will start saying crazy things like he might be a bannana skin for joshua. Thats mental...but thats how it sometimes works with hype. I ve never really rated price...thought he was poor even in the beginning...admittedly thats only with watching him back years later. Crusaders right the flaws we,re there. But hes still 6 foot 8. 250 lbs with a very good right hand and decent power. Plus we now know the patient boxings not gonna work out for him. Its actually hard not to make something of him.

Price has much better boxing ability than Allen. At domestic level he's got more tools than power...

Yes, this is the level I want to see him at for now. I am not against him continuing, as I think he can still do well on the domestic and commonwealth scenes...

As of this moment, I think Price is Area level at best. He can't do the rounds with anyone who can give him something back. His only recent wins are shoddy journeymen who were in there to survive and lose.

Until he beats a British fringe level person I am assuming he is 'shot' or has some sort of undiagnosed illness.

Still interested to see him fight at the lower British level though. Just doesn't seem to have the engine for boxing, his big frame isn't built for stamina and he doesn't have the calmness in the mind to not get a bit worked up and lose any energy he does have.

Allen for example, he'll just take Price's work for a few rounds then what happens when the big man gasses? He gets finished again. So they're gona have to match him even lower than Allen in my opinion - though I accept it's still probably a 50/50 fight at this moment IF we assume Price has something left and has sought out help (mental or physical) for the reasons behind his gassing out.

Who do you consider British level? Who would a 'British fringe level person' be?

I see Cornish-Sexton is back on for the British....get your title back Pricey!

I think the problem is at this point they know the games up. It,ll just be useless guys staying around trying to get a big fight for a decent payday. Rinse and repeat till hes forced to retire. Its the one thing that bugs me about boxing. After a setback they always just go for the easiest route to making decent money. Understand boxings a business but if your not interested in proving yourself you,d be as well getting out the game.

The decent money fight never really works out either mainly because they,ve been fighting stiffs in preparation. Love to see price taking it the other way and build his way back properly. The love fights actually better than expected better than the 2 guys price fought leading up to the hammer fight anyway. They guys we,re pretty much hopeless in every sense of the word.

Love then even one or two of joshuas earlyish victims allen cornish and sexton. Get them all in back to back. If your not getting through that lot he,d be as well retired for his own good tbh. Getting ridiculed constantly cant be good for the big man. I actually think he,s depressed as it is. Thats actually causing most of his problems. Everything just seems like hard work for him. Even chucking out a jab. Hes lethargic in there. His general demeanor etc. I dont even think its boxing related. I d be shocked if he wasnt his demeanor gives it away. He just thinks its boxing related cause its corresponded with his setbacks. Needs to see someone about it while hes at it imo.

I think they are comparable skillwise. Price might be slightly better but stylistically Allen has an edge, not to mention mentally.

BTW Allen was chasing Price during his last run and Price refused to fight him then. I wonder if he will be ready to fight him now since Allens profile has grown.

Allen is a slow punching, easy to hit plodder and hasn't beaten anyone...even Lenroy Thomas was too good of a boxer for him. Price wasn't running over everyone with power as a 3-time ABA champ, Commonwealth Champ, Worlds quaterfinalist, and Olympic medal winner; he's hardly a great boxer and we all know about his jab, but he has some tools to go along with the power---especially in a domestic level context.

Agree with crusader different levels. That mcdermott price smashed in a rounds better than allen. From what i ve seen anyway. Allens a tryer. Half decent guy considering he doesnt really have the ability to take the sport seriously. But different levels. Hammers actually a good fighter same as teper was. Same as old thompson was. Price isnt getting beat off guys like allen just yet.

I dont think it would be in all honesty. The only thing that price brings is experience. He will never be a serious contender and if Joyce is as good as being touted it would be a decent place to start.
Compare to what a lot of people have fought on their debuts though.

No need for Joyce to go Lomachenko speed, but he should be winning the British outright and Euro belt with in his first 10.
Zero point in fighting blown up EE cruisers - he needs some1 that could spark him out.

Beat a couple of stiffs, win the vacant british title, fight chis or whyte in front of a sold echo arena, get flattened, retire and end up a couple of hundred grand richer than he is at the moment.

That's the plan.

Yeh fair enough, it's all about trying to milk that last bit of cash out of his fading name now. Sad to see really.

If he finds his level at British and wins back a title and has a few half decent ding dong wins then he can salvage some pride back from a dreadful last few years. I can't see it though - let's not forget he's 34 now and visibly much slower. His last decent win was 5 years ago when he could arguably have been in his athletic peak at 29.

It's sad to see how Price's career has plummeted from him being the so-called next big thing to now been seen as a washed up fighter who isn't even British level.

Looking back, Thompson was a very poor piece of match-making. I can see the logic behind it at the time in that he'd been in with Klitschko twice in the recent past and had performed well against him in the first fight but looked to be past his best and therefore on paper they should he was a good scalp and a relatively easy night's work. However, Thompson was levels above anything Price had ever been in with before and was a canny operator who could also bang.

Those Thompson defeats effectively signalled the end of Price's career in my view as they completely destroyed his confidence. I actually think he has fairly decent tools as a fighter but his confidence is now so shot that he's almost beating himself before he goes in the ring.

Give Price a proper jab and stamina and he'd be a solid British level operator, hard to beat at that level. Doesn't seem likely though. The 19st chinless jabless plodder we saw last time is liable to get ground down by Allen
