Ok, I'll say it. Mayweather beat JMM in 2009 (having missed weight and being Marquez's heaviest ever opponent by 11lbs) & JMM KO'd Pac in 2012.

The main thing he learned from Floyd was how to exploit his position as the house fighter to force opponents to fight at a weight which made their chances of winning hugely unlikely

Agreed completely. It just seems so unnecessary. Just have it at 154, dominate the fight and there's no argument.

I appreciate I didn't word that well in terms of time scale, and while your right about JMM coming up in weight he has since proved to be a very strong welter and no one handled him like Floyd.
For me this fight seems a bit forgotten.

Seems to me like the Mayweather fight encouraged JMM to pursue certain methods of improvement for his later fights at 140 or higher. The difference in muscle mass is striking and he got a pretty bad case of back acne.

Fair point. People are not taking that into account. I'd like to hear Canelo saying that but he's never blamed the weight once. Only excuse he's made for the Mayweather loss was "I didn't have enough experience".

I think the general all around attitude of Boxing fans, etc has been more than vile imo. Mind you I didn't believe McGregor could win or anything like that, but he gave a great account of himself. His approach was all wrong though. You don't try to box a guy like Mayweather and take it down the stretch. You either have to try and take him out, or force Floyd to come to you and counter punch him. McGregor would have been better served to have tried going at him full blast from the start... But then again, he'd of gassed out even faster and we'd of seen a 6th or 7th round tko loss, if he couldn't take Mayweather out... His volume punching to keep Floyd off balance, was all arm and no power behind it. You don't box that way with a guy like Mayweather.

Agreed, the plan was terrible. McGregor was never going to outbox Floyd and was always going to gas. He should have put everything he had into the first 3 rounds - that was his only chance of winning, no matter how unlikely.

A bit OTT. I expected McGregor to lose but I expected him to have a go. He didn't even do that.

Mcgregor did put it in the first three rounds. Its just that...hes not a boxer. The whole event was mayweather taking liberties...then trying tomake it look like a good win. Mcgregor didnt know how to even punch with boxing gloves on. Biggest surprise was they never got a boxing coach in for it. No disrespect to the guy in his corner...but it was like amatuer hour. No offence cause boxings a different ballgame but that guy shouldnt have been near the corner of a boxing match.

Floyd looked like he was aiming to miss half the time. Until he was fouled in the sixth where his accuracy suddenly shot up. Mcgregor was basically the fall guy. Fair play to him gave it a go...but hes no where near that level even a 40 year old finished floyd hardly surprising tho considering hes never really boxed in his life.

I read an interview with several MMA coaches who posited that a proper boxing coach would have been a waste of time because they'd spend months trying to get him to punch properly and destroy his actual fighting ability. Makes some sense, the lad couldn't even jab.

so watched the rerun obviously Floyd carried him for about 4 rounds. (I refused to pay for this crap and only watched it cos my 14 year old wanted to).

lets not do anything like this for a while please.

it was shit form the start, the trash talking was disgusting THAT TRULY WAS VILE and if in the future I want to watch WWE I will do.
