Biggest Boxing Lessons you've ever witnessed in a fight...
Re: Biggest Boxing Lessons you've ever witnessed in a fight...
The Sergio Martinez shout reminded me of him vs Chavez. Boxed his ears off for 11 rounds, but Sergio is Sergio, so he got caught and had to battle through the last round. Thankfully still got the job done though.

Can’t agree with any of those mate given the criteria- Green vs Leonard, Chavez vs Hooligan in particular were never expected to be remotely competitive beforehand.
If you wanted to go down that road then surely nothing more illustrative of levels than Barrera’s demolitions of Wenton and Lloyd... talk about making the gap between British and World level very explicit.

Mayweather vs McGregor
I thought it was intriguing to see such an experiment - Mayweather couldn't stop any of his opponents above 10 stone (except Ortiz farce), yet the sheer gulf of a master boxer was perfectly illustrated vs a far heavier novice. The much smaller midget was fitter, more accurate and possessed technique leagues above his opponent and knocked him out.

hughie vs parker. shades of ali (the 90s version). with that masterclass hughie deserves a spot on pink tysons next undercard. sad things that thats probably very likely anyway
Re: Biggest Boxing Lessons you've ever witnessed in a fight...
Back then we used to get.mostly American boxing shown here, so I had seen 4 Lacy fights and endured the commentators slavering over Lacy, how good he was, his skills and speed etc etc and how he would go to conquer the world. I thought he was "OK" nothing much more than that. But the other posters are right, Jeff Lacy was hyped to heck and back before he got 'the lesson'. Then everyone stateside shut up about himboxingknockout wrote: ↑05 Dec 2017, 15:29Really? Wow, that surprises me. I guess the Lacy hype and the fact he was this muscular US star swayed them... but the bookies (the real experts in boxing) had a couple of cigarettes between the two. I remember I bet £100 on Joe and the odds were something like 5/4 at the most.Nightmare Roy wrote: ↑05 Dec 2017, 15:23Something like one or two boxing journalists out of 20 odd picked JCboxingknockout wrote: ↑05 Dec 2017, 15:21
No they didn’t. Calzaghe was a very slight underdog, but not far from evens - I remember as I put a bet on it. The ‘myth’ that everyone thought he was going to get beaten has grown over time, and even Calzaghe has perpetuated it.
But it was a bloody masterclass that’s for sure! He ruined poor lacy, he shut up Lacy’s hideous screeching girlfriend.

Last week he admitted to carrying Mac for the first 4 rounds to keep the public happy. Seems it was even more of a farce than we thought.Ricky_ wrote: ↑05 Dec 2017, 23:12 Mayweather vs McGregor

Mosley v Margarito
Obviously the wraps issue minutes beforehand rattled AM and his previous huge wins were probably flattered by that, however Sugar stood him on his head and stopped him. At the time no one saw that coming

It was incredibly obvious he was carrying McGregor early, unbelievable that some people couldn’t see it.KiwiRider wrote: ↑06 Dec 2017, 01:10Last week he admitted to carrying Mac for the first 4 rounds to keep the public happy. My memory of it was Joe going back after the first and Enzo asking him how powerful Lacy was. Obviously Lacy had been hyped up as this mini-Tyson monster puncher. Pretty sure Joe just came back with "he can't punch for sh*t."Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑05 Dec 2017, 14:58Pretty sure Joe went back to the corner at the end of the first and simply said “he’s sh!t”. That and Hopkins Pavlik stand out for me.

A very short lesson, but a boxing lesson all the same.

The single most satisfying beat down I have witnessed. It was like Mosley carried the whole of boxing on his back into that ring, and he didn't let us down
