First of all well done to Carl Thompson for once again proving a lot of people including myself wrong. Also respect to Haye for taking on such a dangerous and exprienced fighter after having less than a dozen Pro fights,

Hopefully Haye will learn more from this one lose than 10 quick blast-outs. This lose could make Haye a MUCH better fighter in the same way Nigel Benn come back a much better fighter after his KO lose to Watson.

This fight could be the making of Haye if he has the strength of character and determination to turn a supposed negative into a positive, time will tell.

The Boxing World is WAY too obsessed with unbeaten records.

Yesterday, you tipped him to win in three on the Current Scene forum. Said he was a "great prospect who has no problem with taking risks."
Today, he doesn't train properly and has a soft chin...
He's never trained properly and has got a soft chin. That doesn't mean he isn't a great prospect....if he trains.

I tipped him to win in 3, and he almost did - I said Thompson was a legitimate fight, which he clearly was.

But if you thought he looked like a guy who trained properly yesterday, then I suggest you are either blind or know little about boxing training.

But no mention of his dire training habits before the fight. Strange.

No Bennie, it would have been strange if I had written a full page preview and not mentioned it. But posting a couple of lines on the internet is a different question....

Anyway talk to anyone in the business and see what is said....I am sure they will mirror this training issues...

You said Haye knocked out David Starie in sparring, and I mentioned it...

does this mean chris eubank will be back?

i remember eubank, an over the hill middleweight, decking thompson once or twice and losing a debatable decion years ago. and the cat was nowhere near 40 yrs of age then either.

so much for hayes 'punch power'.

another one to toss on the scrap heap.

Thompson was rocking all over the place in the first two rounds if you actually saw the fight.

And Haye is nowhere near the scrap heap. He lost to a top 10 cruiserweight in his 11th fight. So what?

There are more experienced fighters in other weight divisions in Britain who haven't fought somebody in the world's top ten and people are hyping them all the time.

The trouble is Haye's weakness - is mental.

If he cannot get in shape for this fight because of arrogance, Idoubt that flaw can be overcome entirely.

The minute he's knocked out two journeyman the arrogance demon will return....

I was absolutely shocked by Haye’s performance. He’s a fighter I’ve always backed quite heavily, so it’s gutting to see him end up exposed in that way.

I have to say, I had bad vibes as soon as I saw his ring entrance and the fact Jodie Marsh was there.. I instantly thought Walker vs Karmasin ..and all the time Walker seemed to be lapping up the fact Jordan was “in his corner”. Who needs a page 3 bint involved in your team when you’re preparing for a title fight?

The way Haye came strutting in was ridiculous looking as his career to date. He walked in like he was Roy Jones or something, and his attitude was all wrong. It was clear he wanted to show off and that he though the fight would be, although not easy, straightforward.

Haye’s cardiovascular conditioning was clearly pretty dire…. and he received a serious wakeup call. He’s good enough to come back from this, it’s just a shame that attitude wise he obviously isn’t as intelligent as he comes across in interviews and is too interested in how he looks as opposed to how he fights.

wow some pretty different opinions here: firstly Carl took a hell of a shitckicking in the first tewo rounds guys, few people would have stood up to that. However it was apparent that Haye didnt have much zip in his punches or footwork for that matter, after a few mins of boxing, I dunno did the occasion get to him, I mean if you are a poor trainer you cant seriously be thinking you can rule the world.

Id hasten to add this is the first I have heard of it. I didnt know haye had the rep for disliking cardio work. If he does he needs to get over this cos all the natural talent in the world means eff all if you arent prepared to train properly.

No shame in haye losing this fight though and those of you who are saying thats it he will never amount to anything may well have to eat those words.

Its his 11th fight, his tactics were wrong and plainly his stamina wasnt up to scratch, hopefully he can learn from this and come again. Just cos you have a one or a two in your loss column does not mean you are finished before you have even started.

he can come again, and this could just be the wake up call he needs.

Yeah you just have to take a look at his website to see that's true. Again, Benn was seen as having the same problem when he lost to Watson: On the day of the fight, Nigel had spent around 6 hours getting his hair done.

I think Haye's conditioning is one problem. The other is his stance and the fact he holds his hands so low.

He may well be able to rectify the CV part of his game. If Benn could do it post Watson when his lack of fitness was so glaring, so can Haye.

However, I don't think he will ever get over the fact that he carries his left hand down by his nuts, he needs a calendar to to measure the time it takes to bring his jab back in and the fact that he seems to have few powers of recovery ( a bit unfair, perhaps as CT would hurt just about anyone he caught )

On the plus side he took his loss well ( perhaps too well ) and seems keen to learn. I am just not sure he can

Hayes chin seemed to stand up fine against Thompson....
it was having no strength left in his legs that led to the knockdown

That is the big question Dave, I thought it was incredible that even when he was badly hurt at the end, he was waving Thompson in with his hands by his waist. Now maybe that was because he was too shagged, but it struck me that perhaps he refused to be seen to be cowering under the attack. Carl by contrast did whatever he had to to survive when he was under fire, even though it made him look bad.

This fight has raised so many questions about Haye, that it is hard to know where to begin or what to make of him as a fighter. I think it's a bit too soon to write him off on the basis of one fight, but what was so worrying was the way the bad habits of posing and not throwing shots returned when Carl refused to fall over.

I always though the posing was due to him wanting to 'flash off' but perhaps it's because his conditioning has been poor in previous fights and he was having a breather, and trying to 'style it out' until he got his wind back. Carl wasn't having any of it, give him a few seconds where you aren't moving and he's all over you.

It's a long way back for Haye, and it's hard to know what level to pitch him at now. How much of Haye's style is based on confidence, and how much will this loss take from him, impossible to tell at this stage.

I think that Haye looked complacent during the ring walk. Thompson was deadly, and I mean deadly serious, he looked like he could have killed man whilst they were giving instructions

well the shot that put him down was another cuff on the forehead, hs legs were pretty shaky nbut not sure whether that was the shot or fatigue. or both,m but certianly he shipped a couple of shots and seemed to take them ok, it wasnt a bad stoppage.

Haye's arrogance-self confidence is a major asset and also his achilles heel.

It stores up problems by making him blaise in training and it is further highlighted in the ring when in trouble and through the tactics he elects to employ.

Nobody has stopped Thompson fast. Yawe Davis did it when Thompson was a novice and Davis was in his prime and is one tough mutha and of course Ezra Sellars (arguably the biggest hitting Cruiserweight of the decade) needed to drop him four times to get the job done.

To come out thinking your power is BETTER than Sellars and your going to stretch Thompson in the opener was bordering on the lunatic. Idont care how humble Booth or Haye were after the fight that was naivety or arrogance of the highest order.

Haye can comeback and I wouldn't be suprised if he contested a world title on the next two years but I suspect the demon of arrogance and poor stamina will haunt him forever.

If I were having a "stunna" in my corner it wouldn't be that rotter. Even if I'd downed a handful of viagras I couldn't get it up for her. Rough as arseholes.
