I have always suspected that US media outlets, such as The RING and ESPN, are biased towards fighters affiliated to American promoters and the TV networks they have a commercial relationship with (i.e. ESPN & HBO).

For instance, Andre Ward retained ownership of The RING 168lbs championship without having faced a top-ten rated opponent in a legitimate super-middleweight contest for three years and two months. Even if you include his bout against Chad Dawson, the time period for his inactivity is still two years and five months. Edwin Rodriguez weighed 170lbs when he faced the S.O.G., which doesn’t count.

Carl Froch should have been declared their champion during that timeframe, because of the amount of top-five ranked contenders he fought (as per The RING’s very own rules).

Tyson Fury was stripped of his belt after only two years and two months and he had medical justification for his period of inactivity.

To be fair though, The RING championship doesn’t really carry that much significance nowadays. It’s a nice thing to have, but doesn’t really have such a significant impact on a fighters’ career or reputation.

Kinda like when Roy Jones was given the Ring title instead of Darius Michalewski (whatever the spelling is).. That got a bit of heat.

Also, the fact that they have rejected Joshua vs. Parker. But the reason for that was they'd rather had #1 vs. #2, which is clearly going to be the winner of AJ/Parker vs. Wilder/Ortiz..

Yeah technically, but he vacated prior to fighting Liam Smith as I recall...at least he vacate the Ring Magazine Middleweight Title, but I suppose he may have remained Lineal Champion anyway.

The Ring title got stripped I believe. You can't vacate the Lineal though. It's the 1 title you can't let go off unless beaten.
