Canelo has The Ring title because he beat the man that had It. Stap this nonsense.PredatorHayds wrote: ↑01 Feb 2018, 19:57The Ring lost all relevance IMO when it became a mouthpiece for Golden Boy.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑01 Feb 2018, 19:07 I really must remember not to look at the forum without signing in, it’s much better when horse posts are hidden by the ignore function.
There was a time, early 2000s I think, when The Ring title was really prominent but until this recent discussion regarding Tyson Fury and his status as their champion I don’t recall when anyone really mentioned it last.
Was Bernard Hopkins Ring champion but no other bodies champion when he boxed Calzaghe?
Who mentioned Canelo???BitPlayer wrote: ↑02 Feb 2018, 13:19Canelo has The Ring title because he beat the man that had It. Canelo is the lineal isn't he? He beat Cotto who beat Martinez who beat Pavlik etc.gilgamesh wrote: ↑01 Feb 2018, 15:09The winner of GGG vs Canelo 2 will be the Lineal Middleweight Champion I'd imagine.
But no title lineages really don't ever stay going too long these days. The Flyweight title lineage that had lasted a LONG while was broken a few years back when Roman Gonzalez moved up to 115.
Kinda like when Roy Jones was given the Ring title instead of Darius Michalewski (whatever the spelling is).. That got a bit of heat.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑05 Feb 2018, 08:52 I have always suspected that US media outlets, such as The RING and ESPN, are biased towards fighters affiliated to American promoters and the TV networks they have a commercial relationship with (i.e. ESPN & HBO).
Tyson Fury was stripped of his belt after only two years and two months and he had medical justification for his period of inactivity.
To be fair though, The RING championship doesn’t really carry that much significance nowadays. It’s a nice thing to have, but doesn’t really have such a significant impact on a fighters’ career or reputation.
Yeah technically, but he vacated prior to fighting Liam Smith as I recall...at least he vacate the Ring Magazine Middleweight Title, but I suppose he may have remained Lineal Champion anyway.banjo wrote: ↑05 Feb 2018, 08:58Canelo is the lineal isn't he? The Ring title got stripped I believe. You can't vacate the Lineal though. It's the 1 title you can't let go off unless beaten.gilgamesh wrote: ↑05 Feb 2018, 14:55Yeah technically, but he vacated prior to fighting Liam Smith as I recall...at least he vacate the Ring Magazine Middleweight Title, but I suppose he may have remained Lineal Champion anyway.banjo wrote: ↑05 Feb 2018, 08:58Canelo is the lineal isn't he?
