Re: Eubank v Groves

I think Eubank (probably) has too good a chin to be stopped, but if Groves controls the fight well enough and doesn't catch a big shot flush, he'll win by decision.
Spike hurt him, gets ignored because it was a good fight and a solid stoppage win but he got hurt multiple times. His chin may be the best myth in boxing right now.
His chin may not even matter if Groves lands one of his thunderous right hooks to the body, cant believe Groves is the underdog for thisYes We Can wrote: ↑09 Feb 2018, 08:31Spike hurt him, gets ignored because it was a good fight and a solid stoppage win but he got hurt multiple times. I'd do a little bit of sex-wee if he stopped Eubank with a bodyshot. early doors i know but that would probably make my boxing year.littlepug wrote: ↑09 Feb 2018, 08:35His chin may not even matter if Groves lands one of his thunderous right hooks to the body, cant believe Groves is the underdog for thisYes We Can wrote: ↑09 Feb 2018, 08:31Spike hurt him, gets ignored because it was a good fight and a solid stoppage win but he got hurt multiple times. Yeah I'm surprised too, seeing the kind of fighters he's mixed with, he's also a really big SM and Jnr is a middle weight, come fight night I,d imagine Groves will have a stone over him. A good big un usually beats a good little unlittlepug wrote: ↑09 Feb 2018, 08:35His chin may not even matter if Groves lands one of his thunderous right hooks to the body, cant believe Groves is the underdog for thisYes We Can wrote: ↑09 Feb 2018, 08:31Spike hurt him, gets ignored because it was a good fight and a solid stoppage win but he got hurt multiple times. Probably just the way he lets his hands go against the flatfooted types he has met, along with a few fancy training vids and hey presto its all aboard the hype train !Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑09 Feb 2018, 11:07 I’ve long struggled to understand why people are rating Eubank Jr so highly. They seem to be using their imagination rather than actual evidence, as a lot of his supposed merits are still unproven.
Of course, he could well be as good as some are claiming, but I won’t believe it until I’ve seen it for myself.
you obviously don't follow his Insta, fool, I saw him punch a heavy bag a hundred times in ten seconds, what more do you want from him? throw a copper kettle over a pub? you still probably wouldn't be convincedBoxerbeetle wrote: ↑09 Feb 2018, 11:07 I’ve long struggled to understand why people are rating Eubank Jr so highly.
I think Eubank has the potential to be elite.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑09 Feb 2018, 11:07 I’ve long struggled to understand why people are rating Eubank Jr so highly. They seem to be using their imagination rather than actual evidence, as a lot of his supposed merits are still unproven.

Obviously im basing it off talent and the "eye test". He's definitely world class already, I don't think that can be denied. He's probably the best son of a world champ that's boxed actually. Degale was elite and I remember saying I thought he was going to be elite and got a similar reply.jimcook wrote: ↑09 Feb 2018, 12:54 elite? like ggg 400 amatuer wins and unbeaten as a pro.
elite ? like mayweather world champ at 22 , 5 weight champ, 50 wins not out
elite? like andre ward, unbeaten since he was 13 years old.
eubank jr is 28 years old , and has fought precisely 1 top fighter. he is gonny have to go some to become even world level, never mind elite.
I think the Groves fight tells us a lot because I while I do think the Froch and Jack fights took a bit from Groves, he's still a world class fighter at 168 so if Eubank can beat him more convincingly than Froch or Jack then that is a big statement. If he loses to Groves then he isn't as good as Froch or Jack. I think the loser of this fight has a long road back. Eubank will probably get dropped from ITV box office. I don't see how they'll be able to justify putting him on PPV but then again boxing fans are idiots who pay for the Khan Salitas and Bellew Cleverly 2s, so you never know. It's surely over for Groves if he loses convincingly.jamamb wrote: ↑09 Feb 2018, 16:34 well i rate junior well but he definetly needs a tournament like this (at least the last two fights if he wins them) to give him more credibility. his record isnt strong to say the least and until he beats a top fighter its going to be fair to question him. that whole 'he lost to his only top opponent' hangs over him a bit. although tbh i think it was hugely impressive for such a raw inexperienced guy to give a vastly more experienced high level boxer that much trouble.
although tbh what i think it more over the top is ppl (mostly americans) rushing to put david benavidez in the top smw discussion based off a win over a gatekeeper like porky medina. yet next fight hes struggling with ron gavril and put on his ass and now rematching him.

I thought he got bollocked for putting baby oil on the mat to help him slide ?pablothunder wrote: ↑10 Feb 2018, 09:13I remember the special socks controversy.
Were they just socks filled with talc? It was too early for Teflon coated.
That was the blessing of a population having the choice of 3 channels. We had a 1 in 3 chance of knowing what someone was talking about and joining in. Now it's so individualised, there's little chance without investing the extra time to find out.bripez wrote: ↑10 Feb 2018, 09:28I thought he got bollocked for putting baby oil on the mat to help him slide ?pablothunder wrote: ↑10 Feb 2018, 09:13I remember the special socks controversy.

Them were the days though - 30 years later we can post about Brian Jacks or Geoff Capes bending bars over his head and millions of people would know what you were on about.
These days a world boxing champion could be stood next to you in Asda and most people wouldn't have a clue who they were!
Was Eubank even a world champ?TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑09 Feb 2018, 16:25Obviously im basing it off talent and the "eye test". He's definitely world class already, I don't think that can be denied. bigjack wrote: ↑07 Feb 2018, 17:42 I can see Eubank trying to trap Groves on the ropes as much as possible and firing off those quick combinations with Groves trying to keep it at distance giving him chance to use the excellent jab and long right hand,if Eubank gets his way i say he wears Groves down for a late stoppage,at distance Groves out jabs him, still think Eubank wins it though.
