I'm talking about the hype for the washed up version.
His best result in the last 8 years is beating Dereck Chisora (who had lost 3 of his previous 4 fights).
He's been overrated for years and was far more overrated than Eubank Jr.
You cannot put a bracket on a time period of a fighter. Haye justified the hype due to his actions previously. He just is an old man now. But the hype and excitement still lives on from what he done

I voted Groves by ud in the poll and then posted my call in the thread but also said nothing would surprise me because GG has been known to get careless and can get dragged into a firefight when he doesn't need to. Eubanks only chance was to get inside and create havoc but I felt that Groves gave as good as he got on the inside and he controlled the distance superbly, it was a very composed and effective performance by George, credit to Shane too.
I didn't get to see much of the corner work in between rounds, sadly. Anyone care to elaborate on what was happening? Especially in the Eubank corner, was Ronnie involved much?

Just like to say that Groves deserves a lot of credit. I think he's unappreciated.

Yep.
He is perhaps the best super middleweight in the world, but everyone seems to be putting his win down to Eubank being rubbish, rather than Groves being very good.

He's still pretty good in my opinion.
If he wins a world title in his next fight will he still be considered to have been a very overrated fighter?
I think Groves might have made him look far worse than he actually is.
I think that maybe people are jumping the gun a little bit on how limited he is.

Eubank was utterly exposed as a supremely fit but limited slugger/brawler.
Very game and incredibly determined and tough but technically inept. We all knew of his floors beforehand but I think last night's fight, conclusively told us everything we needed to know about Junior. It will be fascinating to see where his career goes from here.

Hands up, I thought Jnr was going to turn out to be the real deal before BJS and although thought outboxed by an out of shape Billy did make excuses and assume it was inexperience and lack of confidence in his own stamina over 12. So I again went for him by a 55-45 edge, thinking he had an iron constitution, great will, solid chin, first class stamina, fitness and energy. Plus I thought Groves would slow and be worn down late.
Feel an utter dick now as I should know better, been watching this long enough ffs. I am normally pretty good but will add this to my other personal embarrassment of thinking Michael Grant would turn out to be the next big thing

Eubank over rated? Unquestionably in my opinion. He's just not improved, nor has he learned from the BJS loss.
Groves frustrates me. I've watched pretty much every pro fight he's had and travelled to many of them. What drew me to him was the way he'd fight off the ropes, it worked in his early fights and I loved the tenacity.
Later on though, better opponents have exploited it, Froch knocked him out and even on Saturday with those wild swings and absolutely un-drilled onslaughts from Jnr, he looked occasionally vulnerable.
Groves has superb timing, great shot selection from an excellent range of punches and perhaps the best jab in the SMW division. If he can learn to defend, tie and roll off the ropes better, I think he'd boss the division comfortably.

I'm similar boat as a Groves fan but I think he done all the mentioned things a lot better than before on Saturday which is a good sign

Needs to drop back down a weight and get a trainer who won’t just let him do what he wants. The tactics were clearly poor from the outset but no attempt to change what he was doing was made.

Eubank admitted the size difference was a factor, said he wasn't a natural SMW and he felt the extra weight and strength Groves had, middleweight is where he needs to be.

I think people are perhaps being too harsh...
Most people thought the skill and experience lay with Groves...and that's exactly how it played out.
Eubank Jr was got harder than ever before...got a nasty cut early on...was legitimately dropped at least once in those first few rounds...and was up against by far his best opponent. Groves dislocated shoulder must have been down to Eubank doing all that he could to escape from the wrestling.
It was too much for Jr to overcome. But he went the full 12 and was still going for it at the end. He was tactically poor but he clearly still has a career at the top end of the sport for some years to come.

True. He has shown some vulnerabilities, but he's a slick boxer that's hard to hit clean, and has a solid punch.
He's also shown a lot of toughness in fighting through a broken jaw and dislocated shoulder.
Still I Groves dominated Eubank badly enough to make it embarrassing. The official scoring was bad, Eubank maybe won 2 rounds and was dropped 2 or 3 times (I'd need to se the other from a better angle to say). Plus he looked clueless for a lot of it especially late on.

Just to add I think Groves' inside game is really underrated. His body language is uncomfortable but he doesn't get hit clean much and he can really rip those short shots to head and body.
Add to that his ability to control range (not least with that great drop right hand - caught Eubank more than once with it) and I think the division no. 1 spot is there for him if he can sustain this level.
How do people see Groves - Smith playing out.
