x 2 - I was interested / impressed when he started to break down why he was not impressed with Groves - but then it just sort of stopped. He reminds me of some of these instinctive strikers who, whilst great players, cannot manage - because it is practically impossible to explain what they did. Tony Cottee springs to mind, he openly said he couldn't explain what he did to get into the right position - it was just there.

When Naz was boxing his articulation of how he would win was usually something like "boom there it is". ... Great!

About right!
And with his history with Eubank he is hardly objective.
Great fighter

Yeah great fighter.

Hope his punditry comes in small doses. As Stu said he cant articulate his critical eye he just compares it to the best version of himself.

A breath of fresh air is fresh because it's different and novel. Just like Jose Mourinho it becomes tedious boring egocentric wrong and just a pain in the neck over time. Add Chris Senior to that too.

I watched the fight at The Arena live, so I only got round to watching Hamed's comments last night & yes, I loved it too.

Talk about telling it like it is.

He was spot on about Eubank Jr.

The only thing I didn't agree with is saying that Jr should retire.

Jr is only 28 & isn't shot.

Maybe he will never be world class, but Naz shouldn't begrudge Jr the option of trying to be.

I enjoyed his honesty. You never get that on TV usually. I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I found it hilarious. And in between the “Boom!” And “I love you Alisha!”, he does provide some snippets of real insight.

Would love to see him pull this sh1t on a Sky card

Naz has to be a regular pundit from now on, working on every channel in the country
I never understood personally why so many people thought Naz was THAT great. I know I'm in the minority here being that this is a British site but regardless I never saw that he was better than a lot of guys in his era or later let alone prior.

I’ve never liked listening to Hamed, nothing’s changed. Good fighter to watch though.

Hamed came around at a time when all the champions were old and garbage. Johnson, Vasquez, all well over the hill and designed to make him look good (if anyone saw Vasquez v Rios beforehand they will know how gone he was) He certainly had power against guys who let him land, and had excellent footwork and physical strength as he showed against McCullough, but as soon as he came across elite as he did against MAB, he was schooled. The warning signs had been there since Kelley, and he had had a string of unimpressive defences.

Very good fighter, never elite, and overrated by Brits,

Always thought he was a prick, loved it when MAB owned him.

I liked Naz until his ring enterances became more and more religious. Once his brothers took over their was too much Muslim in the air and he didn’t train properly. Under ingle he could have beaten Barrera instead he chose to fornicate about instead of train. Promised so much but delivered so little in the end

Yes, when we have threads about worst decisions of all time - why is Vasquez vs Rios never mentioned... Rios won that fight emphatically.

It would have been interesting to see Naz against the likes of Junior Jones, Freddie Norwood, Luis Espinosa (for a couple of years) - let alone the big three Mexicans.

I am delighted there is someone else who remembers that fight...I expected to be in a minority of one!

Yep,,,that Naz record was definitely manufactured. Doesn't stop him being a very good fighter, but they were certainly 'risk averse'.

agree, he was in a weak era and so even though he beat champs and all that who really was all that good? did fight 1 elite opponent and won like 3 rounds and the other guy had all the big rounds. and it only took kevin kelly for a 5 knockdown war.

very good though, but not great, i agree

but (insert excuse)!!!

As others have said, I think the trouble with Naz is, you're either good at commentating or you're not.

I remember Emmanuel Steward being angry with Naz before the Barrera fight even admitting publicly that Naz wasn't focused, he knew he's lose

When Steward was commentating on Barrera vs Salud (tune up for Barerra, the Hamed fight was pretty much signed) - you could see him practically shitting himself.
