The raw numbers don’t mean much unless we can get something to compare them to - I.e how many people would be watching other things on the same channel - at the same ie sat night fight on hbo compared to a movie on sat night

Can you get that

Sometimes, it does say if it went against another sport like college football etc..

For me to manually go and find viewership numbers for anything else would take too much of my time. I don't have the time to be honest with work and everything.

* Broner-Vargas main event peaked at 869,000 viewers. Viewership went up to 891,000 just before the decision was announced.

Perhaps some were only interested in hearing Broner's customary post-fight rant.

A lot of boxing last Saturday and the numbers for all the telecasts appear solid, but not overwhelming.

I would think that the Dogboe-Magdaleno card on the highly viewed ESPN would have done a little better. But it did have a late afternoon start on the West Coast, which may have eroded those figures.

ESPN started early too and didn't have much competition with the others.

That's the average over the 3-fight telecast. I haven't yet got the single figures. Maybe Magdaleno-Dogboe averaged 800k-900k.. but the first hour let it down? Who knows..

Fox did okay, I think it would have done better if it didn't go up against HBO.. Obviously HBO has subscription so whoever has subscribed would likely watch that.

I understand that HBO had one of those free preview weekends so that anyone with cable could have watched the fight.

Is that factored into the numbers?

If that was the case. The site would have stated that. But it hasn't.

Don't those vary by cable/satellite provider? There's always some provider offering free preview for some premium TV package at any moment in time. That shouldn't matter, unless you're saying every provider is previewing HBO at the same time. Even then, HBO is already available for free at thousands of hotel rooms.

Nielsen only counts homes that have a Nielson box. They're system is faulty already, but I doubt a free preview week makes a considerable difference in results. Its always free somewhere at sometime.

I believe that the ratings for the Golovkin-Martirosyan fight are rather unimpressive, to the point that (behind closed doors) HBO’s execs may even consider them as being really fúckíng bad!

I feel that the reasons for my opinion are really compelling and I’ve detailed them already in a separate thread: "Golovkin-Martirosyan Cable's Most-Watched Boxing Match in 2018"

Let me know if I've managed to change your opinion?

Yh I read your comments. Thanks.

I only called him that because he's had the most viewers this year so far. Also first time since 2016 HBO Boxing has hit over 1m viewers.

Yeah I know, but if you look at the numbers in their true context, they're really not that impressive.

Primetime Mexican national holiday, figures not proportionately bigger than Showtime's, figures smaller than GGG's bout against Wade, no rival sports competing for the same viewership etc.

The media have put a positive spin on things, which is fine by me, but the numbers are pretty poor.

Websites seem to feel that this was a solid figure for superstar-in-the-making Spence.

Too me, that 700,000 number seems about average for a premium cable main event.

For all the hoopla surrounding Spence I would have expected a higher number, even while realizing that the bout was seen as a mismatch from the get-go.

BTW, RR, does ESPN release any figures for viewership on its ESPN + app?

Specifically, how many might have seen Crawford-Horn?
