It's better looking than the WBA title in my opinion.
I honestly think the British title is the best looking.
I don't really have anything against the IBO, they'd probably be better than some of the other orgs, but the belts pretty meaningless when it's not one top boxers are generally interested in challenging for.
True that.
It's also the one you have to defend to keep, which is even more special.

Most of you are miles out with the figures. Unified fights are split for the sanctioning bodies. There is always negotiation for fees like anything. A champ holding all 4 titles has a fair bit of negotiating muscle but it is almost impossible to agree to all four ABCs rules so they get split up quickly.
The IBO title allowed CEjnr to earn much more money via TV and PPV. It is far from useless.
Groves dropping the IBO belt hurts the IBO. It is the best organisation but most people see it as the poncey fifth. They don't make huge amounts of money, Ed Levine and John Dadanno don't take huge salaries at all. The money is circulated back into the sport.

The WBA have been nothing but asśholes over the last 15 years. Creating super and interim belts..
I agree but my post was about the IBO. The WBA, for all their faults, are an organisation whose titles are coveted throughout the sport by the people who matter most
Definately. You're not wrong there.
Fair points made by all parties. By all standards the WBA is the oldest formal organisation and it's 'super world' title does come with a lot of history and competitive expectation with the belt.
But it also reduces it's value by recognising a 'super' world champion that their board can elect or promote and therefore vacate the World title so another boxer can fight for it in the first place.
For example: the WBC, IBF and WBO all have a singular world title. I don't think many can question the history involved with their championship titles and the recognition their belts bring with them. I don't claim to know better, but the point of a 'super' world champion seems pointless.
The IBO for all the flak it gets is arguably the 5th biggest organisation in the world now and you can include a lot of the bigger names with the people who have held the belt (Golovkin, Hopkins, Jones jr., Lennox lewis, Pacquiao) at one weight or another.
Its disrespectful of Groves to just abandon the title but it's his choice and I'm sure his team wouldn't have let him make the decision without considering the options first.

So simple that I believed even you would be able to understand: A man can't keep something he doesn't have.

How much would that be?
Don't these organisations often accept a flat amount instead of a percentage when the purse is very high?
Better to get something rather than nothing etc.
I believe it's always 3%..
I don't know how much Eubank or Groves earned.. i'm gna guess around £2-3 million? They had $50m across both tournaments so maybe higher..
Let's say their purses were £3m a piece.. they would have both paid £90k each.. in this case, only Eubank paid that.. so add that to WBA's 3%.. Eubank would have paid out £180k on sanctioning fees of his £3m purse..
Groves would have only paid £90k to WBA..
Remember this is just a guess on their purse being £3m..
Your other question. I think they stick to 3%.. the higher the purse the more sanction fee..
Joshua and Klitschko each paid around £450k to the WBA, same amount to IBF and also same amount to IBO when they fought each other. Thats nearly £1.5m from each of there £15m purses..
That's interesting to know I always assumed that the organisations would have to split a % for unifications
There are different rates paid for unification fights.

Yes but those fees go to pay the salaries of the fat cats who run them.

Eubanks IBO stint was bad for sure. Fair play to Groves. It would be great if he won the tourny and dropped all belts and just defended the Muhammad Ali Trophy.

I'd much prefer him to unify the division and hold all of the main 4 belts.

I would have just offered to pay the IBO a flat amount and said take it or leave it.
1% of something is better than 100% of nothing.
its the 5th of 5 belts but its still a belt.
Joshua and Golovkin proudly show it off as did Mayweather and Tyson Fury before them...
If you're looking to win the Tournament as Groves surely is he doesn't need the IBO belt.
he doesn't need it but then again neither does Joshua or Golovkin, yet they keep hold of it.
However minimal, it does add value to his name...
Wouldn’t surprise me it big names are charged a lot less.
IBO is the 5th belt of 4.

I'll bet a champion holding all the belts would pay no more than 10% of his fight purse to the sanctioning bodies.
2% to each of the big 4 and 1% to the IBO.
1% of a £15million purse is £150k...
Don't be a fcking plum, no one is paying 10% of their purse.

ya and roy jones used to show off all sorts of strange beltsback in the day, doesnt mean ppl cared
highly doubt groves is losing anything else but the sanctioning fee dropping that belt.
true casuals probably forgot the name of the belt already and hardcore fans dgas!

Some absolute garbage written in this topic. From hyper-inflated fight purses to figures the IBO could only dream of receiving.

Of course they do. Crawford and Indongo earned 7-figure paydays. They dropped the IBO so they wouldn't have to pay their fee.. even with the 4 major belts they were paying over $100k each ..

Sanction fees are negotiable, especially in situations where the org wants a boxer to wear the belt rather than a boxer desperate to grab one

Like when WBC create their unusual titles. Wonder how much Floyd paid for the Money belt.. it wouldn't surprise me if Floyd asked them to make the belt in the first place.

Will Groves hold onto Callum Smiths WBC Title if he wins the tournament?
I hope not.
It's a pile of crap.
Smith doesn't seem to think so.
He was parading it about at the presser today. Quite embarrassing really...
To be fair you sort of have to don't you? Unless you win it and dump it straight the way it is added onto your name people expect to see it on the table at the press conference etc if a fight is being hyped as for the Super Middleweight title diamond plastic belt or whatever. Eubank took it a bit further I always thought by taking it on nights out etc - no need for that unless its helping keep your trousers up!

WBC Diamond isn’t a championship as such, it’s more of a trophy.
Sort of a higher level version of the Challenge belts and the Masters belts before them?
