What I'm interpreting from some of the nutters defending Wilder's words, is that stupidly offensive things should continue to happen, simply because they occurred in the past.

There's a sizeable number of people who think that boxing is worse than the WWE.
Boxing is real. WWE isn't.
Pretending to threaten and harm someone in professional wrestling is just for show. No one means what they do or say.
But boxing is real life, and fighters genuinely intend to harm their opponents.
So if they're willing to pummel someone into unconsciousness until the opponent slumps to the canvas or the referee intervenes, why should anyone be offended or surprised by mere threatening words?
If you enjoy watching a man risk his life in the ring and absorbing a potentially fatal beating, then how can any fan pretend to be sanctimonious and decry Wilder's words?
Boxing is supposed to be a sport.
No man should be flippant about their willingness to commit manslaughter, regardless as to whether they're saying such absurd things for the sake of hype or not.
Don't pretend that fighter's try their upmost to kill their opponents, because they don't... and it's fûckîng stupid to pretend otherwise.
If you think that Rocky IV was a documentary and that all boxers were like Ivan Drago, then perhaps you need to try to learn a bit more about the sport.

I'm not really sure if Ali refrained from hitting a falling Foreman strictly as an act of sportsmanship or because he was simply taking in the moment.
Did Ali ever comment on that?
There were plenty of times that Ali fought with a killer instinct. He savagely pummeled Frazier in the 13th and 14th rounds in Manila.

Its brutality is it's appeal. Put headgear on fighters or prohibit punches to the head and see if the sport survives.
The spectre of tragedy had always lured fans to boxing.
Listen to the approving roars from the crowd during particularly savage toe to toe bouts.
Hear the boos and whistles when 2 fighters are adhering to a cautious, safety first performance.
Savagery and danger is what fans pay to see. Few care for a lackluster display of the so-called Sweet Science.
Wilder's words merely verbalize the thoughts of many.

I have no problems watching people get knocked out in boxing. I have watched quite few compilations of KO. I am interested to see how the KO was set up and what kind of hit it took to do the trick.
That being said... Povetkin shutting Price down was hard to watch. Price was totally out of it before the last punch landed. That was full powered freebie

We're not defending Wilder's trash-talk, just not taking it seriously like you sanctimonious snowflakes are. It's just TALK, whether it's intended to intimidate future opponents or sell tickets/PPVs. * Screaming threats at a white reporter who offended him with a question that he would rape and kill the guy that he called a "little white faggot"
* Telling Razor Ruddock in a joint interview that he would rape AND kill him.
* Telling a reporter "I wish you had children so I could stomp on their testicles"
* Biting off Holyfield's ear in the middle of their fight
* A whole lot more that defies sanity
