For the millionth time, Golovkin's not fading. It's just that the opposition has gotten 200% better since the days when he feasted on Monroe, Adama, Stevens, Wade, Rubio.
Canelo, Jacobs and even the undersized Brook are light years above those names in talent.
It's a guarantee that Golovkin will again look like a dominant destroyer when he drops it down a few notches against Spike O'Sullivan.
Good points Senior. I agree that theories of GGGs decline do have a lot to do about a huge step up in class. But they said same about Manny when he was knocking everyone out then never had another ko while sprinkling in a few losses.
Time is P4P champ every year.
Aging is a big factor too. Golovkin's speed, relentless and reflexes aren't the same when he was 29-31 y/o.
The end of Pacquiao being a KO machine probably coincides with his move to welter in 2009 rather than anything to do with a rise in his opponent's talent level.
He was simply banging on bigger, stronger bodies that were difficult to knock out.
And it's not like Pac didn't fight talented fighters at lower weights who he was unable to KO.
Marquez, Morales (the first time around) and Barrera in the rematch.
By time he lost to Bradley (dubiously but still not an overwhelming performance on his part) Pacquiao was probably starting to slide a bit.
As for Golovkin, it's probable that there's a slight dropoff in his skills, compared to 5 years ago or so.
But I suspect that if he was fighting the same opponents today, he would still dismiss them easily.
His performance decline is undoubtedly related more to the higher level of opposition rather than advancing years.
That should be clear against Spike.

seeing this Irish kid fight GGG....would be like watching a zoo keeper toss a raw steak towards the mouth of a lion. No chance at all. Not even slightly a competive fight

O'Sullivan scares the heck out of me as a GGG fan. I don't want nothing to do with this guy. I saw his last fight and this kid is no joke. I hate these substitution situations like this where the champion doesn't really have time to prepare for another fighter appropriately and the contender doesn't have time to realize the enormity of the fight. O'Sullivan seems like he loves to ruin the favorite's night with the way he walked through Douglas recently.
I think that O'Sullivan is not the same fighter that lost to Eubank Jr and BJS. I think that this kid could give GGG a huge problem if chosen as the substitute.
Spike scares me too. The man knows no fear and despite being as hard as nails could be a serious danger to himself. Against GGG he will lose a nasty brutal fight, possibly a bloody mess of a fight. Still, definitely not a fighter to take lightly at short notice.
The thing is I don't want to see Spike do a Gabe Rosado. This fight will stop his career dead in its tracks, its a train wreck of a fight. O'Sullivan doesn't need this kind of punishment.
With just a little more finesse Spike could yet be a real contender.
Finally, an intelligent person enters the conversation here. Some of these chaps in this forum couldn't analyze talent to save their lives. ALL that they do is look at resume's and formulate a boxer's worth. "Oh Spike got beat up by BJS over 5 years ago so he must stink."
I loved what Spike showed in that Douglas fight. Great beard with power and way more athletic than people give him credit for. If I were managing him, i'd stay away from GGG fight right now unless they really feel it's the best money fight he'll be able to procure.
Dude it's got fvck-all to do with his record
I don't know his record
I do know, that I have seen him fight, and he couldn't slip a punch if you told him you were throwing it
He fucken sucks, eye test, record as well for all I know but most importantly, he can't fucken box.

There have been articles published in the last couple of hours from alleged sources claiming that GGG’s plans to fight on Cinco de May are likely to be cancelled altogether, because the income received from HBO wouldn’t be enough to cover the events’ expenses.
I wonder if Team GGG would consider filing a lawsuit against Canelo in order to recoup the time he’s lost, his teams’ expenses, coupled with any resulting punitive damages, in order to be compensated for the Mexican’s actions.
And if Team GGG does indeed file a lawsuit against Canelo, will it scupper the possibility of their rematch ever taking place?

Your last graph is exactly the reason the possibility of filing suit would never be entertained.
It would be biting the hand that feeds you. If a spiteful team Golovkin wants to play legal games with Canelo, the Mexican closes the door on that lucrative rematch, maybe just 4 months down the road.
But from all indications, there's no serious thought given to Golovkin passing up the Cinco de Mayo card .
Suddenly Las Vegas doesn't want the Golovkin-O'Sullivan bout.
But Stub Hub in Los Angeles is swooping in and will host the bout.
Better to have a minor fight on Cinco de Mayo in Los Angeles than in Las Vegas.
There will be a more celebratory live atmosphere.
