He wouldn't cut off the ring and catch Saunders like he did an aging, weaker Lara.

Just because he looks like a big guy, it doesn't mean that he would acclimate well at middleweight.
Don't start this garbage, please.
Could you elaborate please.

I'm not certain what your reference to "garbage" actually entails.

Do you think it's garbage that Canelo would beat Hurd?

Do you think it's garbage that Saunders---bigger, stronger and younger than Lara---would beat Hurd?

Before last night's fight, plenty here were opining what a slow, defensively deficient fighter Hurd was.

So now he beats Lara, a decent but never great fighter, and Hurd is suddenly the Second Coming?

Oddsmakers would have him a solid underdog to both Canelo and Saunders.

At 154, Charlo would be the favorite.

Hurd was the slight dog last night.

So please don't blither and say pointing out the obvious is garbage, simply because it doesn't match your preferred ideology.

Think before you babble.

tbf, i think a lot of hurds game is being so big for 154. he imo gives more of his advantages away if he moves up to bigger guys. not that he still wouldnt do well. but there are guys who can cut weight and boil down better then others and he seems to be one of those. hes not only taller then these 154 guys but bigger framed.

i wouldnt be surprised tbh if a few years from now ppl talked of him as a weight bully who didnt do nearly as well after moving up.

I bet there’s a few 147lb fighters who’ve postponed their move up in weight now

Being out-thrown every round and out-hustled? Lara did have cleaner punches when they landed but that's only part of the scoring. Lara showed a huge set of nuggets last night though I thought he got beaten up badly. Really really badly. Lara will never be same...that's a beating.
Counter punching, movement, combinations.. Most rounds were close, so it wasn't the easiest fight to score.

Hurd might have thrown a lot.. But he also missed an awful lot as well.
But didn’t you notice from round 5 on out that Lara was being broken down badly? Those body shot left hooks were nasty and Lara’s face started falling apart. I just thought that Hurd was so much more effective and initiated all of the action. Agree to disagree I guess as we saw a very different fight.

I had it 114-113 for Hurd. That score either way is very fair.

Poll here shows the majority thought Hurd won. Lara gets a draw at best. I don't think he won that fight at all.

I am wondering if all of 6 people who voted for Lara in this poll picked him at PTBF and just can't get over losing.

That whole "Lara was landing the better, cleaner punches" only goes so far when one fighter got broken down while the other still looked fresh. I think people saying that garbage were completely disregarding Hurd's bodywork and short punches on the inside. I've read someone saying they didn't look like they hurt Lara, but Lara was completely broken down by the end of the fight and could've easily been stopped/waved off when he was barely responsive to the referee.

Again, Lara's best outcome would be a draw.

My goodness, finally. A good post from you. Hurd apparently got zero credit for the ripping hooks to the body. Hurd also got zero credit for blocking a lot of Lara's punches. Lara would have some quick counter flurries that looks impressive at times but the replay would show that none of them or very little of them landed. I was impressed by Hurd's ability to catch and shoot against someone slick like Lara.

I couldn't split them in PTBF but went for Lara by close decision.

I thought Lara did great in the fight, he fought in a way that many people didn't think he could. He was in the trenches taking clean shots and dishing them out. Credit to him. Saying that, I just edged to Hurd. 115-112. Could see 114-113 and wouldn't really have any complaints with Lara by a point either, although the KD in the 12th was huge. Lara sat down on his punches well and landed the cleaner, more eye-catching shots but for me Hurd's relentless pressure just edged him in front.

Great fight, sort of a shame that Lara has had everything his own way in his fights since Canelo because he doesn't take many risks and the fights can be boring. He proved on Saturday that he can be in good fights (with the right opponent), the worry is how much did it take out of the 34 year old?

My thought's exactly. I'm in the UK, after DeGale vs. Truax II, I was thinking off going bed as it was 05:30 here.. I stayed down and I don't regret it. Lara actually traded with Hurd as well, and gave just as much as he received. He needed more live opponents in the past,

Lara didn't look too hurt until the final couple rounds, but he was eating shot's all night. I doubt this would have done too much damage on his mentally. I can see him still having 'exciting fights' provided he fights the right opponents.

I think Hurd forced Lara to fight like that like Angulo did and Canelo failed before. Footwork/cutting off the ring was a key for that.

I am afraid that Lara endured significant damage and wouldn't be able to endure another fight like that.

Good post. We’ll see how he comes back but I doubt he’s ever had such a physical beating. Although growing up in the Cuban system would be tougher that most of what people like me have experienced. Credit to him but he clearly lost.

I had Hurd trailing by two points going into the last round, so 114-113 Hurd. Knockdown negated a draw.

Few posters are saying the same...subjective sport. I posted my round by rd on this thread. I appreciate Lara put up a good fight and some rounds were close but I felt Hurd outworked him (effectively) from the onset. To me it looked like Lara was trying to keep the tide at bay the whole fight (if that makes sense).

Having said that the fight went opposite to what I predicted. Thought Lara would steal the early rds but imo he had his best moments rd 10 and 11 when Hurd slowed a tad.

Hurd did slow down and I thought he'd lose the decision, but knockdown changed everything. I was like WOOOOOAAA!

My favorite part of boxing is that one split second can change the fight.
That's what makes it such a unique sport
