I worked on Tyson Fury's debut on the Froch v Pascal undercard. I also worked on James Degale, Billy Joe Saunders and Frankie Gavin's debut in Birmingham

Yes front row or we used to stand on the corner of the ring in most title fights in order to monitor the corner.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑11 Mar 2026, 06:56Ah nice.. Where do inspectors sit? front frow?
Re: Fighters You Saw Debut Live
I was there for Henry Maske's debut. On the undercard of Kirkland Laing winning the Euro title at Wembley in 1990.
He ended up with a 31-1 record with the loss coming to the Great Virgil Hill, which he avenged then retired. He was going to retire after the first Hill bout but shit happens.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was also there for Dewey Bozella's debut (only fight) in 2011. Dewey came from a shite neighbourhood in New York. His mum was beaten to death by his dad, his brothers were murdered or died of AIDs etc etc. He was framed for murder of an old lady (when he was 18) & served 26 years in prison before the Innocence Project got him released. They made a film about him & he was all over US TV. He was a Prison Boxing Champion. He fought on the undercard of Bernard Hopkins v Chad Dawson at Staples Centre in LA. fornicating stacked card. Pacquiao at ringside etc. Obama called Dewey before the fight to wish him luck.
Anyway, he's fighting some bloke called Larry Hopkins who was 0-3 with two first round losses & a 2nd round loss. Larry beats the shite out of the 51 year old Dewey for the first two rounds. It was dire. Then someone must have had a word with him as he just kind of stopped fighting in the 3rd & had a point deducted in the 4th for spitting out his mouthpiece. Dewey won a UD & Larry went on to lose his next fight by 1st round KO. Dewey released his memoir.

A mate and I got cheap tickets but managed to blag our way to the £75 seats on the edge of the pitch and still couldn't see much.

What boxers that went on to have decent careers did you see have their first pro fight?
I'm sure there is a shiteload of examples on here.
Off the top of my head I saw the greatHenry Maske turn pro with a first minute KO of Antonio Arvizu on the same night (but not at the same venue) that saw Lennox Lewis win his 10th pro bout.
It was on a Wednesday too & you had The Lion (and Gary Jacobs and Errol Christie) on one bill while my man Kirkland Laing was winning the European title in some style across the city in Wembley.
Maske would go on to beat Prince Charles Williams for the IBF 175 title, make ten defences before losing in a unification bout with Virgil Hill.
