Classy statement from their team but DeGale clearly didn't want it , stick a fork in him

It's funny how things come back around isn't it? Froch gave Calzaghe stick for vacating the belt in search of bigger fights. DeGale then gave Froch stick for holding out for a Vegas fight which never materialised instead of defending against him. Now DeGale vacates the same belt so he can focus on big fights rather than defend against Uzcategui.

Id ban any fighter who gives back the belt unless they retire instead of fighting mandatory. Minimum 2 year ban. This is what is wrong with the sport. An obvious duck

Signing with Queensbury has proved a work of genius.

He watched Uzcategui smash dirrell to bits and thought no thanks. He knew he wouldnt win and wouldnt get paid much. Hes looking for a cash out fight.

What nonsense. “Defend our belt, or don’t fight at all”. Why give the sanctioning bodies more power than they already have/deserve?

He’s at the tail end of his career, if he wants to chase big (or big money) fights, then let him.

It would give credibility back to the sport at least. The best fight the best. Not oh i think that guy will beat me heres your belt back.

I mean, it COULD be a way to give some credibility back, but surely there are better ways?

  - utter tosh. So what if they retire and then make a comeback in 6 months? What happens to fighters moving up in weight? Can't make the weight in a safe manner so vacates and then they get banned for 2 years :o :brick:

If they comeback they would still be banned for 18 months.

If they cant make the weight. Fair point then they move up. But in degales case hes not going to do that is he?

Interesting that BJS has to defend against Andrade. That is a very, very, very tough fight for Billy Joe, and I do rate him.

Wonder if both him and Chunky will vacate to make their fight happen, gets them both out of tough, and not very lucrative mandatories. Not accusing them of ducking opponents but this is a business.

Billy Joe won't give up the belt.

Without he has has no value when it comes to a fight with Canelo or GGG.

Very good point mate.

I think BJS shouldn't hold out for that fight next though, the WBO have ordered him to fight Andrade next and I think if Canelo/GGG is close again, which it probably will be, they may have a rubber match next May. Trilogy, mega bucks and all that.
